No one likes cutting onions - and not just because they make you cry. They're not the easiest vegetable to chop up. However, since they're a key ingredient in a number of dishes, you'll need to know how to prepare them properly. And one woman has divided opinions online for the way she cuts hers. Lyndsey shared the technique that "just makes sense" on TikTok, where she's known as @lyndseymjames , in a video that has been viewed more than 870,000 times. She said: "I thought I'd quickly come on and show you how I cut onions because ,apparently, the way I cut onions is weird, but to me it just makes sense. "There's none of this slicing it and then you know holding it and ah can't be dealing with that." She says you'll want to take off the outer layer of the onion and then cut off one side so it can be laid flat on the chopping board - but the top should still have the root attached. Then, she demonstrates making incisions all the way down the onion from the top to the … [Read more...] about Woman shares ‘weird’ way she dices an onion but people say it’s ‘genius’

Lawyers will make Civil Code easier for public to understand, adviser says
Lawyers will strive to make increased efforts to help the public understand the country's first Civil Code, making greater contributions to the application of the law, Zhu Zhengfu, a political adviser, told the media before the opening of the fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on Thursday. The effectiveness of a law, he said, lies in the correct implementation, adding that legal professionals and institutes, including lawyers, should become the main force to explain the code. As a member of the CPPCC National Committee and also a lawyer from Guangdong province, he noted: "Lawyers have to learn the code at first, and then explain it to residents in methods that can be easily accepted, such as through a case-on-case approach." For example, more than 100 lawyers in Wuhan, Hubei province, he said, explained the code with about 50 short videos, giving easier access to the public to understand the fundamental and … [Read more...] about Lawyers will make Civil Code easier for public to understand, adviser says

Cyber threats more serious than ever, says founder of Chinese internet security firm
Video Player Close BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Cyber threats are now more serious in the digital era, posing a new challenge to cybersecurity, Zhou Hongyi, founder of Chinese internet security firm Qihoo 360, said Thursday. Cybersecurity is not only related to national security, social security, city security and infrastructure security, but also concerns daily life, said Zhou, also a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), before the opening of the fourth session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, the country's top political advisory body. COVID jab didn’t hurt at all, says Britain’s Queen
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has said that receiving her vaccine to protect against COVID-19 "didn't hurt at all" and encouraged those hesitant about getting jabbed to think about how it would help others in preventing the spread of the deadly virus. In a rare reference to private health matters, the 94-year-old monarch backed the National Health Service led vaccination programme in the UK during a video call earlier this week with health officials coordinating the rollout across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. She and husband, 99-year-old Prince Philip, received their first of two doses last month. "Once you've had the vaccine you have a feeling of, you know, you're protected, which is I think very important,” said the Queen, in reference to her jab. "As far as I could make out it was quite harmless. It was very quick, and I've had lots of letters from people who have been very surprised by how easy it was to get the vaccine. And the jab, it … [Read more...] about COVID jab didn’t hurt at all, says Britain’s Queen

Amazon changes its new smartphone app logo after shoppers say it reminds them of a smirking Adolf Hitler
Amazon has changed the new logo of its smartphone app after users said the initial version reminded them of a smirking Adolf Hitler. The sales giant recently ditched its old logo, featuring the familiar symbol of a shopping cart, in favour of a brown Amazon box with a piece of tape with a jagged edge at the top. But combined with the smile-shaped arrow which also forms part of Amazon's branding, the tape looked like it could be part of a face - with what some shoppers thought was an uncomfortable resemblance to the dictator's distinctive moustache. The logo has since been changed again, with the tape now folded over in one corner and straight around the edges rather than jagged. Unlikely comparison: Amazon's first attempt at a new logo for its smartphone app (left) led some surprised shoppers to compare the image to Adolf Hitler (right) One user noticed the dubious logo on Sunday, saying: 'Well it happened.. my Amazon app icon finally updated to the … [Read more...] about Amazon changes its new smartphone app logo after shoppers say it reminds them of a smirking Adolf Hitler
Trump says he tells the truth – at least he tries
WASHINGTON: Can all those people accusing President Donald Trump of lying cut him some slack? He really is trying to tell the truth, he says. "I try, I do try," he told ABC television late Wednesday (Oct 31). "I always want to tell the truth. When I can, I tell the truth. And sometimes it turns out to be where something happens that's different or there's a change, but I always like to be truthful," Trump said. The Republican is famous for going off script during frequent impromptu press gatherings at the White House and at campaign rallies in the final run-up to next Tuesday's midterm congressional elections. A billionaire former real estate magnate and reality TV host, Trump keeps even his own aides on their toes with surprise announcements and headline-grabbing declarations. On frequent occasions, Trump also makes statements that are clearly exaggerations, plain wrong or at minimum unaccompanied by evidence. These include his recent claim that "unknown Middle … [Read more...] about Trump says he tells the truth – at least he tries

SAN FRANCISCO: Google said on Thursday (Oct 25) it had fired 48 employees in the past two years - including 13 senior executives - as a result of sexual harassment allegations, citing "an increasingly hard line" on inappropriate conduct. The US tech giant issued the statement from chief executive Sundar Pichai in response to a New York Times report that one senior Google employee, Android creator Andy Rubin, received an exit package worth US$90 million as he faced allegations of misconduct, and that Google had covered up other claims of sexual harassment. Asked by AFP and other media for its reaction, Google released an email sent to employees from Pichai stating that 48 people had been terminated for sexual harassment in the past two years, including 13 who were senior managers and above and that none received "an exit package." "In recent years, we've made a number of changes, including taking an increasingly hard line on inappropriate conduct by people in positions of … [Read more...] about Google says fired 48 for sexual harassment over two years
