A tale of two carmakers: GM and Toyota take different electric roads in China
SHANGHAI - Toyota pioneered the world's most successful hybrid car but when it comes to pure electric vehicles it has some catching up to do, especially in China. The Hong Guang Mini EV , a tiny, no-frills car made by a General Motors joint venture that costs under $5,000 is a smash hit in the world's biggest car market while Toyota has yet to launch its own small, low-cost electric vehicle in China. Toyota, the world's biggest carmaker, is set to unveil its solution at the Shanghai auto show on April 19: a new universal platform for electric vehicles (EVs) called e-TNGA that will underpin an array of models from small runarounds to large SUVs. It will also display its concept electric mid-sized sport-utility vehicle (SUV), based on the e-TNGA platform, which is set to be sold worldwide within a couple of years, two people familiar with Toyota's plans said. Toyota's executives have long called for a small electric runabout but the fact it is going first with a … [Read more...] about A tale of two carmakers: GM and Toyota take different electric roads in China
Exclusive! Anusha might have moved on, but I have not: Karan Kundrra
In an industry that’s popular for its long-running shows, Karan Kundrra says that he is not afraid of taking breaks. That probably explains his absence from fiction shows for more than three years. However, he has now returned to daily soaps with Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (YRKKH). Talking about his long break and the decision to join a show midway, he says, “I was busy with OTT projects and films. Also, I like to take breaks in between two shows to start with a fresh approach. When you play a character for too long, it becomes boring. One should never overrun the life of a character and a show. I don’t want to commit myself to a new project, and then not be able to do anything else for years.” He adds, “It’s true that YRKKH has been running for 12 years, but for me, my journey on the show started recently. The best part is that my track won’t be dragged. I prefer to be part of a show for a definite period and then take up something new.” Meanwhile, on the personal front, he … [Read more...] about Exclusive! Scottish election 2021: How independence and Brexit are shaping the vote
Scotland's parliamentary elections on 6 May could have profound consequences for the UK. Nicola Sturgeon's handling of the pandemic might be on voters' minds when they get to the ballot box. But, if her Scottish National Party wins a majority it will increase pressure on Boris Johnson to grant a second independence referendum. Since 2014, when Scots decided by 55% to 45% not to separate from the rest of the UK, the nation's politics has been dominated by not just one, but two questions of sovereignty: Should Scotland be independent of the UK? And, should it leave the European Union? Despite two referendums, these issues are far from settled for many Scottish voters and that has reshaped the electoral landscape. Researchers from the Scottish Election Study revealed how voters in the country divide into four tribes based on their views of independence and Brexit. The Young Ones – where stars are now from Star Wars to Spongebob and tragic deaths
The Young Ones was one of the best loved sitcoms of the 80s and it featured some performers that would go on to be household names and huge stars in their own rights. The comedy only ran for 12 episodes over two series between 1982 and 1984 but it left a mark on TV comedies that live on today. Here is what happened to the cast once The Young Ones had changed the comedy landscape on television for ever. Rik Mayall Rik Mayall is probably the best known of the cast after his portrayal of student poet Rik in the BBC comedy.
