Wife of 82-year-old retiree who tested positive for Covid-19 is sole new community case

SINGAPORE - The wife of the 82-year-old retiree reported to have Covid-19 on Wednesday (March 3) is the sole new coronavirus case in the community announced on Thursday. The 81-year-old Singaporean developed a fever and chills on Feb 27 but did not seek medical attention and recovered on the same day, said the Ministry of Health (MOH). MOH added that these symptoms might have been due to the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, which the woman had received on Feb 26. As the retiree was a close contact of her husband, she was placed under quarantine on March 2, and was tested for Covid-19 as part of the Health Ministry’s protocol. Her test result came back positive for Covid-19 infection the next day, and she was taken in an ambulance to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). The woman's serological test result is negative, indicating that this is likely a current infection. As the vaccine does not contain live virus, she could not have been infected by … [Read more...] about Wife of 82-year-old retiree who tested positive for Covid-19 is sole new community case

I feel so guilty after passionately kissing my wife’s brother

DEAR DEIDRE: I’VE always known that I’m bisexual, but I never strayed since I met my wife – that is until I shared a passionate kiss with her brother last summer. I am worried as she is trying to organise another family holiday this summer, once restrictions allow it. I’m panicking and don’t know what to do. I’m 40 and my wife is 36, we’ve been married for eight years and have a five-year-old daughter. Last summer, when things opened up a little, we all went to stay at a big family holiday home in Cornwall. My wife’s brother, wo is the same age as me, and his family went too. Before the trip, I didn’t know her brother well at all, but during the two-week holiday I spent a lot of time with him. We discovered we share a love of fishing and would spend hours together talking on the river bank, while we waited for the fish to bite. Read more online ALCOHOL ISSUES? EAGLE-EYED fans are convinced Hollywood actor Jason Sudeikis is living with former Page 3 girl Keeley Hazell. The pair have set tongues wagging after appearing to be caught on camera in the same house. He couldn’t lose weight on his own. Then he opted for surgery that’s gaining ground

SINGAPORE: At his heaviest, Vasoo Kesevan weighed 212 kilogrammes. Even before he reached that point, he was hurting. Whenever he took his children to the playground, he could see some of the parents looking at him, “as if they’d never seen a big-sized guy in their lives before”. It was the kind of look he got wherever he went. Sometimes there was more, for example once when he was waiting for a taxi with his two children. “A small boy — I think he must’ve been (in) Kindergarten Two or Primary One, somewhere around there — looked at me. He started to tell his mother, ‘Look at this fat man,’” recalled the 47-year-old. “The mother didn’t say anything.” These are stories that one doctor has heard many times before. Tan Chun Hai, a consultant in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital’s (KTPH’s) department of general surgery, has seen many patients like Vasoo. “They have difficulty fitting into the society. They take up more than one MRT seat (and) have difficulty getting on the bus,” he … [Read more...] about He couldn’t lose weight on his own. Then he opted for surgery that’s gaining ground

Mental health challenges rise as remote work arrangements drag on

Jaime Aguilar remembers when he left the office to work at home — March 13 — and can tell you the precise number of days he’s been away. “They gathered us around and told us starting tomorrow, we are going to work from home until we figure out what is going on with this pandemic. They talked about coming back in July. And then July passed. I have been working from home for 186 days now, but who is counting,” he said last week. The transition was “very exciting” at first, said Aguilar, a digital communication specialist at the Community First Foundation in Arvada. But it didn’t take long for problems to emerge and frustrations to mount. Early on, his old computer didn’t prove robust enough to handling video meetings. When Aguilar’s wife, Denver City Councilwoman Jamie Torres, joined him in the home office, it strained the broadband connection. The pair had to juggle who got the office for Zoom and Microsoft Team meetings, and how to allocate Wi-Fi. Some problems involved … [Read more...] about Mental health challenges rise as remote work arrangements drag on

Why the Web Hasn’t Birthed a Prettier Craigslist

You can check-out any time you like, But you can never leave! If I told you these Eagles lyrics described a certain website, you'd probably think it was Facebook . After all, public exclamations of quitting Facebook are so common it's cliche, but by and large the people still stay. The same is true on other networks that angered users with product or business changes. But even when a better alternative arrives — such as Path to Facebook or App.net to Twitter, we still don't see the users walk away. The two times a major exodus did come to fruition — Myspace to Facebook and Digg to Reddit — it was largely based on weaknesses in ease of use rather than philosophy. The weaknesses in Craigslist are painfully obvious: The site is ugly, any listing you post almost guarantees spam to your inbox, the apartment listings are full of scams, the site was once a known destination for sex trafficking (albeit minimized now) and lastly, people have died from engaging in a Craigslist … [Read more...] about Why the Web Hasn’t Birthed a Prettier Craigslist
