Black cab rapist John Worboys loses appeal against life sentences for drugging women

John Worboys, the serial sex attacker known as the black cab rapist, has lost his appeal against his life sentences for drugging lone female passengers in order to sexually assault them. Worboys , who changed his name in prison to John Radford, targeted women while working as a London cabbie, claiming to have scooped a windfall on the lottery or at the horses. He was first jailed in 2009 for 19 sex offences against 12 women between 2006 and 2008 and was handed two life sentences in December 2019 when new victims came forward, as a judge found he posed an ongoing danger to women. Police believe the 63-year-old former male stripper committed offences against more than 100 women before he was caught. In 2018, the Parole Board controversially said Worboys could be freed from prison, but the decision was reversed after a landmark legal challenge by two of his victims. The WordPress Visual Editor: Tips And Tricks for Beginners

WordPress was initially built to be a simple blogging system that made publishing content online a breeze. With time, it has morphed into a full-fledged Content Management System (CMS). Users now have complete control over the design and functionality of their WordPress websites. However, without content, design and function mean nothing and in that regard, WordPress remains true to its roots: content creation and management. While a lot of features have been built into the WordPress base software, content creation remains its core driving force. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the WordPress visual editor in this post and how you can better utilize it. WYSIWYG WordPress allows you to create and manage content visually rather than coding it directly into your files. Thus, it is called a WYSIWYG editor or “What You See Is What You Get” for the uninitiated. The editor tool has three parts: Visual Editor Text Editor (where you can enter code) Media Uploader (for … [Read more...] about The WordPress Visual Editor: Tips And Tricks for Beginners

India vs England, 3rd Test: Axar Patel’s six-for, Ashwin spin out visitors for 112 at Motera Stadium

Axar, playing in just his second Test, scalped six wickets while Ashwin returned with three wickets as the visitors were bowled out in just 48.4 overs. This was Axar's second five-wicket haul in a row as he had scalped five in the second innings of the second Test as well. Resuming the second session at 81/4, England got off to the worst possible start as both Ben Stokes (6) and Ollie Pope (1) were sent back to the pavilion. Stokes was trapped plumb in front of the wickets and as a result, Axar was rewarded with his third wicket. Ashwin on the other hand sent Pope packing for just 1. If the former England players were critical of the Chepauk wicket, the lack of application from the English batsmen in the first innings of the third Test can have no excuses. Playing down the wrong line was the crux of the story and just like the top-order batsmen, Jofra Archer (11) too tried to cut a straight delivery and was clean bowled by Axar as the visitors were reduced to 93/7. This was … [Read more...] about India vs England, 3rd Test: Axar Patel’s six-for, Ashwin spin out visitors for 112 at Motera Stadium

India vs England, 3rd Test: Worried about the lights, players will need to adapt quickly, says Kohli

The refurbished stadium, the largest cricketing arena in the world, doesn't have the traditional floodlight towers but a ring of LED lights around the perimeter of its roof. It is similar to the 'ring of fire' at the Dubai International Stadium, which often poses a challenge to the fielding side. "It is such an exciting atmosphere here at the largest cricket stadium. I'm a bit more worried about the lights than the colour of the seats," Kohli said at the toss ahead of the day/night Test against England. "When it gets lost with the lights at the back, it's hard to spot the ball. We've played at a similar stadium at Dubai. It's about angles, body positions. You need to adapt pretty quickly," Kohli added. Motera Stadium Name Change: President Kovind inaugurates Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad During last year's Indian Premeir League in the UAE, several regulation catches were dropped by fielders in Dubai due to the blinding lights, as compared to the stadiums Abu Dhabi and … [Read more...] about India vs England, 3rd Test: Worried about the lights, players will need to adapt quickly, says Kohli

Ex-Syrian agent convicted by German court in landmark torture trial

A former member of Syrian president Bashar al Assad's secret police has been sentenced by a German court to four and a half years in jail for facilitating the torture of prisoners. Human rights activists hope the landmark ruling will set a precedent for other cases connected to the 10-year-old Syrian civil war. Eyad al Gharib was convicted of accessory to crimes against humanity and sentenced by the Koblenz state court. It was the first time a court outside Syria had ruled in a case alleging Syrian government officials committed crimes against humanity. The court heard Gharib had arrested at least 30 anti-government protesters at the start of the conflict in 2011 and sent them to an intelligence facility where he knew detainees were tortured. Advertisement The verdict gives hope to the 800,000 Syrians in Germany who say they were tortured in government facilities after attempts to establish an international tribunal for Syria failed. … [Read more...] about Ex-Syrian agent convicted by German court in landmark torture trial
