Iranian military veteran Fariboz Rakei has received a short prison sentence for leading a boatload of migrants, including a seven-year-old child, on a perilous journey across the English Channel. The 49-year-old is one of ten people who have been convicted for offences related to people-smuggling migrants in the Channel so far this year, and has received the longest sentence yet — of just four-and-a-half years. This is despite the fact he is a so-called “boomerang migrant” , having already been deported from Britain to Germany as recently as 2019 following a previous illegal channel crossing, according to KentOnline. Criminals in Britain who receive non-“life” sentences are almost always automatically released early on licence halfway or, more rarely, two-thirds of the way through their terms, too, so the headline figure of four-and-a-half years is not likely to reflect the amount of time he Rakei will actually serve in prison. An Iranian man who risked his own life … [Read more...] about Iranian Military Veteran Gets Short Sentence for Piloting Illegal Migrants Across Channel

‘England’s batsmen not good enough in Indian conditions’
'You can talk about the pitch and about the ball and about anything else, but you have to find a way to score first innings runs.' SCORECARD IMAGE: England’s Jonny Bairstow scores a boundary on Thursday, Day 1 of the fourth Test against India, at the Narendra Modi stadium, in Motera, Ahmedabad. Photograph: BCCI Former captain Andrew Strauss believes England’s batsmen are not good enough to tackle the spin-friendly Indian conditions after yet another flop show by the visitors in the first innings of the ongoing fourth Test in Ahmedabad. England's batsmen produced a shoddy performance and surrendered the momentum to India after Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin called the shots on Thursday, the opening day of the Test in Ahmedabad. After five innings, England crossed the 200-run mark, scoring 205 in 75.5 overs before being bowled out. "Let's not hide away from the truth. England's batting, quite frankly, is not good enough in these conditions," … [Read more...] about ‘England’s batsmen not good enough in Indian conditions’

Mithali Raj decodes the World Cup final loss
‘Everybody was very nervous and I think that resulted in our defeat’ ‘It's about experience and about how composed we are in the situation’ ‘If you ask me, they should have (women's) IPL because now is the right time to create that base’ IMAGE: Indian women’s cricket team. Photograph: ICC/Twitter The champion's crown eluded her team for a second time but Indian skipper Mithali Raj believes future is bright for women's cricket in the country and a platform has been set for the coming generations. India seemed on course for a maiden World Cup trophy but suffered a batting collapse, losing seven wickets for 28 runs to slip from 191-3 to 219 all out in 48.4 overs in a chase of 229 in the final against England at Lord's. But despite the heartbreak, the skipper said future seems good for India. "These girls have really set the platform for the upcoming generations in India. They've opened up the channels for women's cricket and they should be really proud of … [Read more...] about Mithali Raj decodes the World Cup final loss
Arsenal set to axe FOUR top youngsters at end of season and Folarin Balogun future up in air as teen rejects new deal
ARSENAL will reportedly allow four of their Under-23 stars to leave the club in the summer. According to Football London, Ben Sheaf, Arthur Okonkwo, Joseph Olowu and Kido Taylor-Hart's respective stints with the north London club will come to an end at the end of the season. Sheaf's time with the Gunners will draw to a close as his loan club Coventry City have an obligation to permanently acquire his services. Last September, Coventry chief Mark Robbins said: “If certain criteria are met it’s an obligation to buy. “So it’s not an option to buy, more an obligation and I think he’s an outstanding young talent and we’re in a position to sign him at the end of this season." Okonkwo and Olowu, meanwhile, are both set to become free agents at the end of the campaign. And it's claimed the Arsenal brass will not offer the duo, 19 and 21 respectively, new deals following the expiration of their current contracts. Taylor-Hart is also said to be on course to leave the … [Read more...] about Arsenal set to axe FOUR top youngsters at end of season and Folarin Balogun future up in air as teen rejects new deal

Katie Price backs Ant Middleton and praises his ‘tough love’ on Who Dares Wins set
Katie Price has thrown her support behind Ant Middleton after he was axed from SAS Who Dares Wins for personal conduct. The former glamour model, 42, appeared on the 2020 celebrity edition of the series but was forced to leave early because she was recovering from a breast reduction surgery and was not physically healed enough to take part. The mother-of-four credits meeting Cold Justice author Ant during her short stint on the show for turning her life around and says she is keen to work with him again. Katie told The Sun Online: "I would do another show with him at the drop of a hat." Her representative added: "Katie looks back on her time on SAS: Who Dares Wins with fondness. It was, in Ant's words, 'no s*** banter and tough love' that Katie found her strength, and fight. After the show, she turned her life around and a year on, is smashing it."
