Post Malone Covers Hootie and the Blowfish for Pokémon Day Celebration
Post Malone has released a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1995 hit song “Only Wanna Be With You” ahead of his performance at the Pokémon Day 25th-anniversary virtual concert on Saturday, February 27th. Officially dubbed the “Pokémon 25 Version” of the song, Post Malone’s rendition trades the rootsy production of the original track for lush, echoing guitar and plenty of synthesizer sound effects that are reminiscent of the original Pokémon video game. The song will be included in the setlist for Post Malone’s appearance at the Pokémon anniversary concert, streaming at 7:00 p.m. EST / 4:00 p.m. PST on February 27th. The event can be viewed for free on the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch channels, and on Pokémon’s 25th-anniversary website . Earlier this year, Post Malone appeared as a cartoon version of himself in the music video for his and Ozzy Osbourne’s collaboration, “It’s a Raid.” The song originally comes off Osbourne’s most recent LP, Ordinary Man , … [Read more...] about Post Malone Covers Hootie and the Blowfish for Pokémon Day Celebration
If DoorDash wins, what do we lose?
advertisement advertisement advertisement In the first-ever season of Sesame Street , in 1970, cast member Bob McGrath appeared in a memorable sketch where he receives a delivery from his local grocer, a grumpy blue muppet. “Did you get everything I ordered?” McGrath asks. “No,” comes the reply, but he’s helpfully supplemented the delivery with other fresh veggies. McGrath breaks into song, a version of the now iconic “People in Your Neighborhood,” to explain to kids the role a grocer plays in the community. The grocer is the bearer of sustenance. advertisement advertisement A few weeks ago, during Super Bowl LV, “People in Your Neighborhood” got remixed into an anthem for the app-based delivery platform DoorDash to signal to the world that it is expanding from restaurants to convenience and grocery. In a crisp 60 seconds, a tap dancing Daveed Diggs ( Hamilton )—directed by French auteur Michel Gondry ( Eternal Sunshine of … [Read more...] about If DoorDash wins, what do we lose?
Women Are Keeping Dancehall Fresh
HoodCelebrityy Photo: Rick Kern/WireImage In the cultural spaces from which dancehall music gets its name, women are usually the center of attention. The Jamaican genre’s digital rhythms are calibrated to inspire female bodies to wine , as the vigorous gyration of the waist is known across the Caribbean, and the lyrics to gyal tunes like Tony Matterhorn’s “Dutty Wine” and Mr. Vegas’s “Bruk It Down” echo this connection, calling out ladies-only instructions. The living embodiment of this culture, as seen through the years in music videos from Chaka Demus & Pliers’ “Murder She Wrote” to Rihanna’s “Work,” are the so-called dancehall queens: acrobatic dancers in go-go boots, fishnets, and “batty rider” shorts who run the floor at Kingston street parties and diaspora nightclubs with splits, head-top plants, and other feats of flexibility. Yet dancehall, the music genre, has long minimized female voices, relegating women artists to a peripheral role. This, finally, is … [Read more...] about Women Are Keeping Dancehall Fresh

‘Way Down in the Rust Bucket’ Is the Sound of Neil Young and Crazy Horse Getting Reinvigorated for the Nineties
Between vintage concert albums and recent ones excavated from archival tapes, it’s become easier than ever to track the onstage history of Neil Young and Crazy Horse. We can now hear Young and the band in its early, funky, Danny Whitten days ( Live at the Fillmore East ), breaking in Whitten replacement Frank “Poncho” Sampedro (the often breathtaking Japanese 1976 show included on last year’s Archives Volume II ), thundering in arenas not long after that ( Live Rust ), flexing their newly revitalized muscles in the early Nineties ( Weld ), and showing the flannel-shirt crowd a thing or two about endurance and longevity in the mid Nineties ( Year of the Horse ). Next to those projects, Way Down in the Rust Bucket isn’t especially revelatory, nor does it shed new rays of gleaming light on an under-documented part of the saga. To warm up for the 1991 arena tour heard on Weld and its noise-mayhem sibling Arc , the band played two club shows in Northern California, and … [Read more...] about ‘Way Down in the Rust Bucket’ Is the Sound of Neil Young and Crazy Horse Getting Reinvigorated for the Nineties
