SINGAPORE: Wet weather is expected to continue in the second half of June, the Meteorological Service Singapore said on Tuesday (Jun 16). In its fortnightly advisory, the Met Service said thundery showers are expected on most days. "This could bring a slight easing of the warm temperatures felt in recent weeks," it added. The daily temperature on most days is expected to range between 25 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius, with a possible high of 34 degrees Celsius on a few warm days. “On many days in the fortnight, short-duration moderate to heavy thundery showers can be expected between the late morning and early afternoon, and extending into the late afternoon on a few days,” said the Met Service. Wet and humid weather expected to continue in first half of June: Met Service
SINGAPORE: The wet and humid weather in May is expected to continue in the first half of June, said the Meteorological Service Singapore on Monday (Jun 1). "During this period, it is also expected to be warm, and daily highs of around 35 degrees Celsius can be expected on a few days," said the Met Service. More warm nights can also be expected in the first half of June, compared to the second half of May. This is due to low-level winds blowing from the south-east on most days, with the south-west monsoon persisting in June. The monsoon rain band is also forecast to remain over the region in the coming fortnight, the Met Service said. Short moderate to heavy thundery showers can be expected between the late morning and afternoon over parts of the island on most days during the fortnight. Widespread thundery showers with gusty winds due to Sumatra squalls are expected on two or three days, between the predawn hours and morning. Why, Years Later, You Recognize Someone You Only Met Once
Source: Image by Bessi from Pixabay Have you ever met someone and somehow, recognized them many years later? What was it about their appearance that struck such a chord? Some people joke that when they attend their high school reunions, they feel lost in a sea of strangers, only to suddenly recognize a classmate they hardly knew. Why? True, some people are more visually memorable than others. And it is also true, as I note in another column , that depending on your attire, people might remember what you wore. Researchers note, however, that we often remember beauty, but we also remember distinctiveness. El Haj Mohamad and André Ndobo (2020), in a study investigating destination memory (remembering information previously relayed), cited prior research finding people tended to remember both attractive and unattractive faces, suggesting that the extremes “are characterized by distinctive features” that enable facial recognition.[i] But apparently, emotion plays a … [Read more...] about Why, Years Later, You Recognize Someone You Only Met Once
Carmen and COVID-19 don’t go together: NYC’s Met Opera closed till Dec 31
New York's Metropolitan Opera will keep its curtains closed until a New Year's Eve opening gala, it said on Monday (Jun 1), as it announced a season shortened by the coronavirus epidemic. "Social distancing and grand opera simply don't go together," general manager Peter Gelb said in a video message. The 2020-2021 season had been due to open in September at the 137-year-old company's 3,800-seat home in Lincoln Center. Four new productions will be postponed, according to the Met's website. The Met, one of the world's leading opera houses, is among the latest cultural institutions to extend its closure due to the pandemic, which has hit live theatre especially hard. The company, known for spectacular stagings of operas such as Georges Bizet's Carmen and Giacomo Puccini's La Boheme, furloughed its orchestra, chorus and stagehands in March. Broadway theatres have extended their closure from mid-March until at least Sep 6, while two major musicals in London – revivals of Hello … [Read more...] about Carmen and COVID-19 don’t go together: NYC’s Met Opera closed till Dec 31
Alderson: Mets weren’t ‘naive’ in pursuit of Trevor Bauer
Mets president Sandy Alderson says the team may have been naive to think it could manage Trevor Bauer’s habit of inflammatory social media posts but says he’s happy with New York’s off-season changes despite failing to sign the NL Cy Young Award winner. Bauer agreed Feb. 5 to a $102 million, three-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a deal that was finalized a week later. He has been involved in multiple controversies on social media, where he has a huge following and is actively involved in creating and writing content for his channels. Two higher-profile incidents both involved women, including a college student who accused the 30-year-old Bauer of harassing her online. Bauer tweeted the student “was obsessed with me.” “I think that he would have added a dimension to our team, maybe a third or fourth dimension,” Alderson said with a laugh during a news conference Monday in Port St. Lucie, Florida, ahead of the Mets’ spring training opener. “And hard to know how that … [Read more...] about Alderson: Mets weren’t ‘naive’ in pursuit of Trevor Bauer
Mets to honour Seaver with 41 patch on jerseys this season
NEW YORK - The New York Mets will honour the late Tom Seaver by wearing a “41” patch on their home and away jerseys this season. The Mets announced Monday they’ll pay tribute to the Hall of Fame pitcher by putting his number on the right sleeves of their uniforms. Seaver died Aug. 31 at age 75. The right-hander is the Mets career leader in wins, ERA and strikeouts. He earned three Cy Young Awards during his 12 seasons with New York and pitched the Mets to their first World Series championship in 1969. Seaver also played for Cincinnati, the Chicago White Sox and Boston in a 20-year career. Overall, he had 311 wins, a 2.86 ERA and struck out 3,640. The Mets retired his number in 1988 and he was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1992. In 2019, the Mets changed the address of Citi Field to 41 Seaver Way. The team plans to unveil a Seaver statue at the ballpark this year. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports … [Read more...] about Mets to honour Seaver with 41 patch on jerseys this season
Warm, humid weather expected to continue for rest of May: Met Service

"The daily temperature on most days is expected to range between 26 and 34 degrees Celsius, and reach a high of around 35 degrees Celsius on a few days," said the Met Service in a media release. This is caused when "prevailing winds blow from the southeast, bringing warm and humid air from the sea over the land", it added. "With the presence of the monsoon rain band over the equatorial Southeast Asia region, the coming fortnight is expected to be as wet as the first half of this month," said the Met Service. Nearly three decades after Woody Allen and Mia Farrow’s sensational family scandal was aired in public , a four-part HBO documentary aims to dig even deeper into a core trio of headlines: the sexual-abuse allegations against Allen by his daughter, Dylan; Allen and Farrow’s custody trial; and Allen’s subsequent romantic relationship with Soon-Yi Previn . As the official trailer for Allen v. Farrow teases , the series will outline details of the case that have remained private until now, as well as feature extensive interviews with Farrow, Dylan, Ronan Farrow, and many case investigators. “I was over the moon happy.
