Starship Troopers TV Show Pitch Shared by Original Star Casper Van Dien

There is currently no official word on the status of the Starship Troopers TV show. We know, at least at one point, that Sony was developing the project with original screenwriter Ed Neumeier. The plan, when the idea first surfaced in early 2019, was to have the original cast return. Now, Casper Van Dien, who played Johnny Rico in the franchise, reveals his idea for the show, which would involve him returning as "old man Rico." Casper Van Dien recently discussed his proposal for the show. Though not official plot details, the actor explained that he feels now is the perfect time for Starship Troopers to take over the small screen, with him taking on a mentor role for the younger generation of soldiers. Here's what he had to say about it. Iris van Herpen has always been fascinated with the natural world. Now she wants to save it

advertisement advertisement advertisement For a recent collection, designer Iris van Herpen sent models down the runway in gowns that rippled with each step they took, reminiscent of waves undulating at the turning of the tide. This connection to water was deliberate: The dresses were made from plastic fished out of the ocean by the environmentalist organization Parley for the Oceans , and turned into fabric. advertisement advertisement Since launching her fashion house in 2007, the Dutch designer has dressed everyone from Lady Gaga to Beyoncé, but in many ways she’s unlike any other haute couture designer. From the start, she has embraced science and technology, incorporating both concepts and cutting-edge materials into her work. She has created dresses with electricity literally bolting from sleeves, 3D-printed shoes , and digitally printed fabric . Now that it’s clear that fashion is contributing to the destruction … [Read more...] about Iris van Herpen has always been fascinated with the natural world. Now she wants to save it

Summer holidays depend on European countries catching up with jabs, says Jonathan Van Tam

Summer holidays overseas will depend on European countries catching up with the UK on their vaccination programmes, Professor Jonathan Van Tam has said. England's Deputy Chief Medical Officer said many European countries are behind us on vaccine rollout - and the possibility of overseas travel will depend on what other countries will "say and do". He told a No 10 news briefing: "We are still in a zone of great uncertainty about what the virus will do next. "On top of that, many of the vaccination programmes in Europe - which is a place where we frequently go on holiday abroad - are running behind ours. "Clearly, whether we can go on holiday abroad to places such as Europe depends on what other countries will say and do in terms of foreign tourism. "There has to be great uncertainty at the moment." Encouraging people to continue to come forward for their first and second doses, Professor Van Tam added: "We have to be patient. We have to push on with the vaccine programme." … [Read more...] about Summer holidays depend on European countries catching up with jabs, says Jonathan Van Tam

COVID-19: WHO clarifies comments on asymptomatic spread

GENEVA: Studies show people with the coronavirus are most infectious just at the point when they first begin to feel unwell, World Health Organization (WHO) experts said on Tuesday (Jun 9). This feature has made it so hard to control spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 disease, but it can be done through rigorous testing and social distancing, they said. "It appears from very limited information we have right now that people have more virus in their body at or around the time that they develop symptoms, so very early on," Maria van Kerkhove, a WHO epidemiologist and technical lead on the pandemic, told a live session on social media. Preliminary studies from Germany and the United States suggest that people with mild symptoms can be infectious for up to 8-9 days, and "it can be a lot longer for people who are more severely ill", she said. Earlier, some disease experts questioned her statement on Monday that transmission of COVID-19 by people with no symptoms is "very … [Read more...] about COVID-19: WHO clarifies comments on asymptomatic spread

Site handover for North-South Expressway construction behind schedule

As the plan, the entire site of 11 component projects must be handed over in 2020, but up to now, 13 localities affected by these projects have just handed over around 624.4 out of  652.92 kilometers, accounting for 95.6 percent. That was due to difficulties in resettlement and removal of technical infrastructures for sub-projects of the North-South Expressway project. Amidst this situation, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The requested relevant units to focus on solving difficulties in site clearance for the project. In addition, investors and project management units must report specific proposals along with difficulties of each project to the leaders of the Ministry of Transport and localities to handle. Out of the six ongoing public investment component projects, three projects namely Mai Son – National Highway 45, Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay have been relatively in good progress. Projects of Cam Lo - La Son, My Thuan 2 Bridge need to speed up the … [Read more...] about Site handover for North-South Expressway construction behind schedule

Piglets aborted, chickens gassed as coronavirus hits meat sector

CHICAGO: With the pandemic hobbling the meat-packing industry, Iowa farmer Al Van Beek had nowhere to ship his full-grown pigs to make room for the 7,500 piglets he expected from his breeding operation. The crisis forced a decision that still troubles him. He ordered his employees to give injections to the pregnant sows, one by one, that would cause them to abort their baby pigs. Van Beek and other farmers say they have no choice but to cull livestock as they run short on space to house their animals or money to feed them, or both. The world's biggest meat companies - including Smithfield Foods Inc, Cargill Inc, JBS USA and Tyson Foods Inc - have halted operations at about 20 slaughterhouses and processing plants in North America since April as workers fall ill, stoking global fears of a meat shortage. Van Beek's piglets are victims of a sprawling food-industry crisis that began with the mass closure of restaurants - upending that sector's supply chain, overwhelming storage and … [Read more...] about Piglets aborted, chickens gassed as coronavirus hits meat sector
