Cut off from the rest of America, a small town endures lockdown
COVID had a pretty hard time finding its way to Point Roberts, Washington. There's been only one confirmed case there since the pandemic began. It is remote; on a map, Point Roberts looks like it should be a part of Canada, except that this fingertip of land dangles just below the 49th parallel , officially making Point Roberts part of Washington State. "They call it Pretend America, the world's largest gated community," laughed Jeff Ferguson. He's kidding, sort of. The only way for Americans to get to the rest of the U.S. by land is a 24-mile drive through Canada. That means getting past two international border guards. "That's been our primary access to our country, is through another country, and it's just been built that way," said fire chief Chris Carleton, who is organizing about 1,000 vaccines for all the residents here. That's the good news. The bad news? In keeping with U.S. and Canadian COVID travel restrictions, without an essential reason, no one – vaccinated … [Read more...] about Cut off from the rest of America, a small town endures lockdown
Jesus Christ wasn’t a sacrifice for sin, don’t be misled!
Kindly Share This Story: By Simon Ifeanyi Ezeh First: Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world but how exactly does he do that? How and why is Jesus Christ our only Saviour and Lord? He takes away sins by revealing to mankind that God is our Father (nobody knew this prior to his incarnation – Jn 17) who is merciful and forgiving; declaring that man also has the power to forgive sins just like God (Matt 6:14,15; Jn20:23). As the Messiah, he brought forgiveness of sin down to the realm of men so that man could and should forgive whenever he is offended. This way, Jesus Christ takes away the sin of anyone who asks for God’s mercy and forgiveness as far as the petitioner forgives his offender(s) as well. This petitioner forgives his offenders and God forgives him – this is the mercy principle. So, Jesus Christ sorted out the sin problem at both levels: at the level of God and at the level of man. He solved the sin question … [Read more...] about Jesus Christ wasn’t a sacrifice for sin, don’t be misled!
A different kind of Allhallowtide season this year, even for these GMA stars

Pandemic Forces Route Change, Other Precautions for Iditarod Sled Dog Race
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Traveling across the rugged, unforgiving and roadless Alaska terrain is already hard enough, but whatever comforts mushers previously had in the world’s most famous sled dog race will be cast aside this year due to the pandemic. In years past, mushers would stop in any number of 24 villages that serve as checkpoints, where they could get a hot meal, maybe a shower and sleep — albeit “cheek to jowl” — in a warm building before getting back to the nearly 1,609-kilometer Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. When the race starts Sunday, north of Anchorage, they will spend the next week or so mostly camping in tents outside towns, and the only source of warmth — for comfort or to heat up frozen food and water — will come from their camp cookers. “It’s a little bit old school,” said Iditarod CEO Rob Urbach. This year’s Iditarod will be marked by pandemic precautions, a route change, no spectators, the smallest field of competitors in decades, the return of one former … [Read more...] about Pandemic Forces Route Change, Other Precautions for Iditarod Sled Dog Race

I’m a meteorite dealer who makes millions selling space rocks – I’ve been kidnapped and robbed in the brutal trade
WITH a machete at his throat and a gun at his head, Mike Farmer noticed the kid holding the firearm was shaking – they were scared, and that made the situation even more dangerous. "I was just thinking: 'I'm glad my wife stayed at the hotel today – this sucks, I'm actually going to die here'," Mike tells The Sun. It was 2011 in Kenya and he'd been beaten, abducted and driven into the jungle by thieves who knew he had cash – lots of it. That's because Mike, 48, is a meteorite hunter from Tucson, Arizona. He sells his extraterrestrial minerals to amateur astronomers and billionaire businessmen alike, all of whom want to get their hands on a tangible emissary from outer space. A fireball over the skies of Britain last Sunday alone could have scattered thousands of rocks in the fields below. And while the financial and scientific rewards in finding meteorites are great, so are the risks – but Mike lives for the thrill of the chase. "I see myself as like Indiana … [Read more...] about I’m a meteorite dealer who makes millions selling space rocks – I’ve been kidnapped and robbed in the brutal trade
iPhone 4 prices around the world
If you’re in the USA you probably know the iPhone 4 price starts at $199 with a plan and $599 without contract , but did you know that the top end iPhone 4 costs nearly $1000 in much of Europe and over a grand in Italy? Yikes! At least it comes unlocked… All the prices in the above graphic are listed in euros but with the € euro stronger than the dollar it’s not too difficult to see the high prices. Much of the price differences are due to VAT and other taxes, but it’s still interesting to see nonetheless. The best deal for iPhone 4 looks like Hong Kong, where you can pickup a base model unlocked iPhone 4 for about $650, not bad considering $600 in the USA keeps you glued to AT&T! The graphic comes from Flickr where you can see a much larger version, thanks for sending this in Rick. … [Read more...] about iPhone 4 prices around the world
