Commentary: Singapore’s hunt for global tech talent will benefit Singaporeans too

SINGAPORE: The COVID-19 crisis has crushed global economic growth and battered the Singapore economy. Singapore’s Growth Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecast for 2020 is expected to come in at “-6.5 to-6 per cent”, announced by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) on Nov 23. The gloomy economic outlook, coupled with global economic uncertainties, not only paints a bleak picture for the local labour market but also tests Singapore’s openness to global talent. To encourage employers to hire more Singaporean workers, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) raised the minimum salary required for new Employment Pass (EP) and S Pass (SP) applicants in early August. To qualify for EPs for foreign workers, the job must pay at least S$4,500 per month, which is $600 higher than it was before. That figure is S$5,000 for the financial services from Dec 1 onwards. SINGAPORE: The ongoing protests have affected Hong Kong’s stability, economy and how companies and workers operate. ‘Projecting the country in a wrong way is sedition’

'When you talk badly of the country and project a bad image of the country to the rest of the world, is it not sedition?' IMAGE: E Sreedharan. Photograph: Vijay Mathur/Reuters E Sreedharan , is the architect behind the Konkan Railway, the Delhi and Kochi Metros. Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar review: Kristen Wiig and Jamie Dornan in ‘barmy’ comedy

Opening with the adorable Reyn Doi’s Yoyo lip-syncing on a bicycle to Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb’s Guilty before events quickly take one outlandish turn, audiences are very quickly thrust into Barb and Star’s Go to Vista Del Mar’s unique tone. The film, penned by Bridesmaids scribes Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, stars the two screenwriters as the single titular best friends Barb and Star. When both are laid off from their jobs at a furniture store and expelled from their inane Talking Club of friends, Star suggests that the gleefully optimistic pair head on a dream holiday to Vista Del Mar, Florida. Once the pair arrive, however, they find wacky adventures occur, mostly instigated by the lovelorn Edgar ( Jamie Dornan ), who is in the town on a villainous mission for the vengeful and maniacal ‘genius’ Sharon Gordon Fisherman (also played by Wiig). As romance blossoms among the players, outlandish schemes and desires come to light, and events soon build to one … [Read more...] about Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar review: Kristen Wiig and Jamie Dornan in ‘barmy’ comedy

Renault Espace F1 Revival Rendering Says No To Boring Minivans

The V10 family hauler is back... in Photoshop. Renault took the 1994 Paris Motor Show by storm with the unveiling of what is arguably the most ludicrous minivan ever built. We’re using “ludicrous” in the most positive way possible as the one-off Espace F1 had a lot going for it. Built to celebrate the minivan’s tenth anniversary, the impressive build was co-developed with Matra as a mid-engined family hauler with a V10 taken from a Formula 1 car. The spirit of the Espace F1 is alive and well some 27 years later as a talented artist has resurrected the rear-wheel-drive minivan with its 3.5-liter engine producing up to 820 horsepower. If you recall, the original concept had the powertrain sourced from the 1993 Williams-Renault FW15C Formula 1 car and used a carbon fiber body to keep weight down to a low 2,866 pounds (1,300 kilograms). The adjacent rendering is based on the latest Espace, an endangered model in Renault’s lineup as the minivan could bite the dust as … [Read more...] about Renault Espace F1 Revival Rendering Says No To Boring Minivans

Bendis’ Justice League will be the ‘central piece’ of the DCU

As part of the 'Infinite Frontier' initiative, longtime partners Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez are reuniting to take over the ongoing Justice League title. The duo, who have worked on Miles Morales , the Defenders , Iron Man , and Civil War II are reuniting beginning with March 16's Justice League #59 - and using a mix of classic members along with some surprising ones like Hippolyta, newcomer Naomi, and the usually-a-villain Black Adam. Ahead of this new era, Newsarama spoke with Brian Michael Bendis about his Justice League run, adding a character he created to the pantheon of the team, and how this works with the Justice League Dark secondary story in each isue. Newsarama: Brian, to jump right in, what was the decision behind wrapping up Superman to write Justice League? Brian Michael Bendis: I was only supposed to do 25 issues of the Superman books, each one, that was the original run. Then everything kind of stretched a little bit with pandemic … [Read more...] about Bendis’ Justice League will be the ‘central piece’ of the DCU

Rodea The Sky Soldier review

Glimpses of Yuji Naka's outmoded genius can be seen in Rodea's barren skies, but a paucity and dissonance of ideas make this a failure. Ever play the game in which you must try to move from one side of a room to the other without touching the floor? The learning curve is low, but the risks are perilously high. Cracked lamps, bloody noses and scattered potpourri await the over-ambitious player, he who leaps from the arm of a sofa, over the baffled cat, only to put a clumsy foot through the coffee table. There's little grace involved, on those slow, wet childhood afternoons. Nevertheless, everyone involved believes, beforehand, that they'll move with enviable feline refinement, from mantelpiece, to lampshade to victory. Rodea: The Sky Soldier's development team clearly had a similar hopeful vision for this project, in which you play as a quick-footed robot boy, able to hover and glide through the air. As you tumble off walls and enemies, so you recharge the titular boy's … [Read more...] about Rodea The Sky Soldier review

Ryan Reynolds Made A Perfect NSFW Joke After David Beckham Left An Instagram Comment About A Wrist Injury

It's fair to say that Ryan Reynolds is known for his exceptional talent as an actor, but he's pretty well-known for his quick-witted, and sometimes NSFW, clapbacks. I mean, he is Deadpool after all, so it's very on-brand! For example, there was this Sesame Street moment earlier this year which...well, it wasn't exactly kid-friendly, was it?! Which brings us to his most recent joke, which might just be one of his best yet. It all started when Ryan posted a picture signing bottles of his Aviation Gin. All pretty innocent, right! "I signed 100 bottles of Aviation Gin for the Liquor Control Board of Ontario," he captioned the picture. "Weird name for a person but tbh if that were my name, I'd drink that much too." Anyway, in swooped David Beckham, who was just concerned about Ryan's wrist after signing 100 bottles of gin. And, of course, Ryan had the perfect response. "I've intensely trained my wrist since I was 15" — Ryan … [Read more...] about Ryan Reynolds Made A Perfect NSFW Joke After David Beckham Left An Instagram Comment About A Wrist Injury
