REUTERS: Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder says he is enjoying the best transfer window of his tenure at Bramall Lane and hopes to bring another player on loan, which would complete their business for the upcoming campaign. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale re-joined from Bournemouth, Ethan Ampadu completed a loan switch from Chelsea, before Max Lowe and Jayden Bogle arrived on permanent deals from Derby County, and Scotland winger Oliver Burke joined from West Bromwich Albion. "I'm delighted. Pound for pound when the window shuts and we get the players in place I would be delighted," Wilder told a news conference ahead of United's season opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday. "Another one to complete the set sooner rather than later, but if we have to wait the wait will be worth it. It will most probably be a loan market - the one that we're speaking to at the moment. "That will add us up to 25 players and I would regard that as the best window that I have had at this … [Read more...] about Football: Wilder eyes another signing as Sheffield United face high expectations

Premier League team prospects
REUTERS: Team-by-team prospects for the 2020-21 Premier League season. Part One (Arsenal to Leicester City). ARSENAL Manager: Mikel Arteta. Last season: 8th. Major signings: Willian (Chelsea), Gabriel Magalhaes (Lille), Cedric Soares (Southampton) Major Departures: Henrik Mkhitaryan (AS Roma) There were signs of improvement after Arteta replaced Unai Emery in December and engineered a respectable league finish and an FA Cup final win over Chelsea. The Community Shield season curtain-raiser win over Liverpool on penalties at Wembley has added to the air of optimism around the Emirates Stadium. Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the league's second-top scorer last season with 22 goals but the Gabon international is in his final year and has yet to agree a new deal. There is also the question of whether Mesut Ozil plays a full part this season or finally ends his disappointing stay with the club. Arsenal will be hoping for a push towards the top four but it is … [Read more...] about Premier League team prospects
Norrie upsets Schwartzman in marathon five-setter at US Open
REUTERS: Briton Cameron Norrie claimed his biggest win at a Grand Slam when he came from two sets down to beat ninth seed Diego Schwartzman 3-6 4-6 6-2 6-1 7-5 in the first round of the U.S. Open on Monday. Both players served poorly, resulting in 58 break points being up for grabs in total, and 25-year-old Norrie saved two match points in the decider before prevailing after nearly four hours. Extended rallies and long games were a feature of the match and it was Schwartzman who had the measure of Norrie after the early exchanges, winning four of the last five games in the opening set. Norrie managed to create chances in the second set but did not convert the big points, giving Schwartzman a two-set lead before the Argentine started to lose his way in the third. A time violation saw Schwartzman lose his cool and Norrie took advantage to break and lead 3-2. The Briton capitalised on more errors from a wayward Schwartzman to earn a double break before wrapping up the set. … [Read more...] about Norrie upsets Schwartzman in marathon five-setter at US Open
From field hospital to Grand Slam, Flushing Meadows welcomes back US Open
NEW YORK: Bruised: but not broken: New York City is bringing back Grand Slam tennis. Just five months ago part of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center was transformed into a temporary 350-bed hospital to handle an overflow of patients as COVID-19 cases spiked across the city, then the epicenter of the virus in the U.S. Now, the venue is preparing to host the crown jewel event of American tennis, after the city crushed the COVID-19 curve. "New York City went through hell, but we're coming back stronger," Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a written statement to Reuters. "Hosting the U.S. Open in the very spot we created an emergency field hospital is a testament to the incredible progress New Yorkers have made in the fight against COVID-19." New York City has suffered more than 23,000 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the outbreak, according to data compiled by Reuters, with more than 236,000 confirmed cases. But its case count has dropped to a seven-day average of less … [Read more...] about From field hospital to Grand Slam, Flushing Meadows welcomes back US Open

Report: Derion Kendrick no longer with Clemson program
Clemson cornerback and former five-star recruit Derion Kendrick is no longer apart of the program, according to Clemson247's Anna Hickey . The Clemson Insider reports head coach Dabo Swinney dismissed Kendrick from the program. The cornerback missed a few games due to disciplinary reasons in 2020, and Hickey reports those disciplinary issues continued so far in 2021. Clemson was scheduled to return all 11 starters on defense prior to the reported news Sunday morning. Reliance ties up with Google, Facebook for national digital payment network
New Delhi: India's conglomerate Reliance Industries has partnered with Facebook Inc, Google and fintech player Infibeam to set up a national digital payment network, Economic Times newspaper reported on Saturday (February 27), citing unnamed sources. Last year, India's central bank invited companies to forge new umbrella entities (NUEs) to create a payments network that would rival the system operated by the National Payments Council of India (NPCI), as it seeks to reduce concentration risks in the space. Set up in 2008, NPCI is a not-for-profit company, which as of March 2019 counted dozens of banks as its shareholders, including the State Bank of India , Citibank and HSBC . It processes billions of dollars in payments daily via services that include inter-bank fund transfers, ATM transactions and digital payments. Citing three unnamed sources, India`s leading business daily Economic Times said that the group led by Reliance and Infibeam was in the advanced stages … [Read more...] about Reliance ties up with Google, Facebook for national digital payment network
Here’s why we aren’t making COVID-19 vaccines in Canada
OTTAWA—It could have been different. Brad Sorenson is convinced of that. The founder of the Calgary vaccine development firm Providence Therapeutics believes Canada would be closer to a made-at-home vaccine for COVID-19 if only the federal government had taken him seriously. Last March, when the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic, Sorenson said he flagged to Health Canada that his firm had designed two potential inoculations for the coronavirus. With a grant of about $35 million, Sorenson said, Providence could have sped towards clinical trials; with $54 million, it could have moved to secure raw materials to produce five million doses. Instead, he said its work stalled through last summer as it waited for a response from Ottawa. By October, after the federal government signed supply deals with a host of foreign vaccine-makers — and one Canadian firm in Quebec City — Providence had received government grants of up to $8.2 million, he said. The company, with 20 … [Read more...] about Here’s why we aren’t making COVID-19 vaccines in Canada
