Farmers urged to use high-tech practices to enter global value chains

Dragon fruit cultivation in Long An province (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Farming households in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta need to apply high-tech practices to develop value-added agricultural products that can enter global value chains, Le Minh Hoan, deputy minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, has said. Hoan said it was vital to offer incentives and loans to farmers who use sustainable and climate-friendly production processes. Millions of small-scale farming households , which are the most critically affected by climate change, need access to innovative technologies and practices as well as market information. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted global supply chains, posing risks to farmers and exporters of farm produce. The most affected products have been fresh fruits, vegetables and aquatic products, according to the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences. To cope with the outbreak, major firms including the Loc Troi Group, Vingroup, PAN Group … [Read more...] about Farmers urged to use high-tech practices to enter global value chains

BMW Puts The Spotlight On 2 Series With 136 New Photos, 6 Videos

BMW is playing a game of spot the difference with the lightly facelifted 2 Series. After showing the facelifted 1 Series from every possible angle , BMW is doing the same thing with the mildly updated 2 Series. In both cases, the changes are on a very subtle level, up to the point it’s hard to see what has changed. To be fair, the two-door 2 Series has only been around for roughly three years, so it’s not like the cars were starting to look dated or anything. While the 2 Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer minivans are based on the front-wheel-drive UKL platform like the Minis, the coupe and cabriolet shown here employ a RWD setup. Needless to say, an xDrive layout can be had with some of the engines. Speaking of which, BMW will sell you a 2 Series with a three-, four-, or a six-cylinder mill. The gasoline units have been essentially carried over whereas the diesels now benefit from a new turbocharger and improved common-rail direct injection. Gearbox choices include the … [Read more...] about BMW Puts The Spotlight On 2 Series With 136 New Photos, 6 Videos

Exclusive: Chinese banks, Australia’s Macquarie tiptoe into Asian oil finance void

SINGAPORE: Chinese national banks and Australia's Macquarie Group are quietly filling some of the multi-billion-dollar hole in Asian oil financing after the withdrawal of traditional European lenders, hurt by a raft of defaults and fraud allegations. Established financiers still taking on oil transactions, such as France's BNP Paribas and Singapore's OCBC, have raised compliance standards and are shying away from higher-risk small traders and refiners, according to interviews with over a dozen trading and banking executives. Beijing-controlled Bank of China , ICBC Standard and Agricultural Bank of China are among the few institutions that are expanding credit in the sector, mostly as customers activate dormant lending facilities set up previously but left unused as they were viewed as too expensive or restrictive. Long-time commodity financiers like the Netherlands' ABN Amro and ING Group, France's Natixis and Societe Generale, and regional players DBS and CIMB have … [Read more...] about Exclusive: Chinese banks, Australia’s Macquarie tiptoe into Asian oil finance void
