Ikea rushes to make up lost time on India expansion after delays
Furniture giant Ikea is accelerating its India expansion after a nationwide pandemic lockdown last year delayed the construction and opening of new stores in one of its fastest-growing markets. “If you have a lockdown you can’t continue to construct,” Peter Betzel, Ikea’s chief executive officer for India said in an interview. “But now we are back in full speed.” The company opened its second India store on the outskirts of Mumbai in December and another in the southern city of Bengaluru is now on course to be completed in 12 months, Betzel said, adding that he was hopeful of meeting the target of rolling out shops in 30 Indian cities within seven years. Ikea, which opened it’s first store in Hyderabad in 2018, also has just two years left to raise the ratio of goods and materials sourced from India -- currently at 22% -- to at least 30% to meet local regulations. Betzel said that was “absolutely” achievable. “It’s increasing as we speak,” he said. “But this is not … [Read more...] about Ikea rushes to make up lost time on India expansion after delays

Bengal’s tinsel town takes sides in high-octane TMC vs BJP battle
Ironically, the BJP, which seeks to unseat the TMC from power, has taken a leaf out of Mamata Banerjee's strategy of soliciting tinsel town's support towards causes and fielding actors in elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s ambition to form its first government in West Bengal and the Trinamool Congress’ bid to seek a third term in power in the state has politically polarised the Bengali film industry and turned it into the parties' new battleground. Paffett in frame for DTM return with Mercedes team
The driving force behind Paffett’s comeback is believed to be the Schaeffler Group, which has been a series partner of the DTM for several months and is also working with the championship on the DTM Electric project for 2023. Schaeffler, together with Paravan, has developed a steer-by-wire system that is set to be run by the Mucke team in its Mercedes AMG GT3 this year. Both Schaeffler and Paravan would like to have Paffett in the car, with the British driver having spent 15 consecutive seasons in the DTM as a factory Mercedes driver and scored 23 race wins on top of his two title successes. Paffett’s chances of a comeback have been boosted by Schaeffler-Paravan’s appointment of former HWA man Hubert Hugle. Hugle had been in-charge of technology at HWA for several years and also served as its DTM Development Manager, and thus worked closely with the British driver until Mercedes’ exit from the series after 2018. Paffett’s return would also sit well with DTM boss … [Read more...] about Paffett in frame for DTM return with Mercedes team

We had a chance to drive the all-new BMW M340i xDrive for a couple of days and boy the car left us staggered. One more thing is that this is the first M car to be assembled in India. So, we took the car and went for a drive in the city and on the highway and here is what we have to say about it. Exterior & Design At first glance, when you see the car upfront it will be difficult for you to tell that this is a performance-oriented sedan … [Read more...] about BMW M340i xDrive Review (First Drive): The First Locally Assembled ‘M’ Car
