Top 10 things that have changed in Thailand during the Covid-era Things have changed. In some cases they’ve changed a lot and may never be the same again. Many people are suffering as a result of the impacts of lockdowns and the border closures. Some people are being forced to re-invent their lives as a result. Here are some of the main things we believe have changed since January this year. Face Masks The now every-present face mask is now with us for a long time. In Asia, it was never uncommon to see people wearing face masks, for traffic, air pollution, fears of disease or just to a fashion statement. In the Covid-era, mask wearing will now just become a normal thing we wear when in public spaces. Even when the government relaxes the actual laws about the wearing of face masks, most people, we predict, will continue to wear them anyway. Taking Your Temperature It’s everywhere, it doesn’t appear to be very effective or reliable, but it’s not uncommon to have your … [Read more...] about Things that have changed in Thailand in the Covid Era | Top 10 | VIDEO

F1 can react quickly if further cost cuts needed – Steiner
During last year's spring shutdown, F1 took a series of emergency measures, including postponing the new regulations by a year, freezing chassis components for 2021, and lowering the budget cap. Steiner believes that 2021 already looks a lot better financially, with F1 planning a 23-race calendar and spectators expected at the majority of races. He remains hopeful that with improved revenue streams no emergency changes will be required. "There's no point to bandage your head yet if it isn't broken," Steiner told Motorsport.com. "I think we have to wait a little bit and see what is actually going to happen. It didn't actually take long last year, and then you know what hit the fan – and there were big changes, and it was done very quickly. "I think everyone is prepared for doing a step, if it's needed. It doesn't look like it's needed, so let's stay optimistic, but if it's needed we learned a lot last year, that we needed to react quickly, to get out in a good … [Read more...] about F1 can react quickly if further cost cuts needed – Steiner

Partnerships needed to support the military-to-civilian transition
Military homecomings are often portrayed as picture-perfect when for many they can be harder than being away. The joy of reuniting fades, routines are disrupted and real life sets back in not long after the “Welcome Home” ceremony is over. The eventual transition from military to civilian life can be especially difficult given that, in an instant, you’re uprooting family yet again — but this time — you (and often your spouse ) are joining a new, unfamiliar community, seeking a new identity and managing a (typically dual) career pivot all at once. Today, these difficulties are compounded by the effects of COVID-19 on our economy. The pandemic has displaced millions of workers and quickened the pace of automation. New research suggests that in the face of these changes 40 percent of workers will need reskilling. In light of these challenges, it is more evident than ever that the government cannot support the military-to-civilian transition alone. The private, social and public … [Read more...] about Partnerships needed to support the military-to-civilian transition
10 Moments on Twitter That Will Go Down in History
2008: The Power of a One-Word Tweet One of the earliest examples of Twitter's ability to make change came when one young U.S. student secured his release after a wrongful arrest. On April 10, 2008, James Buck, a University of California, Berkeley grad student was photographing an anti-government protest in Mahalla, Egypt, when he was seized by the authorities. He managed to send a quick tweet -- "Arrested" -- which prompted his followers back home in the U.S. to contact not just the University and the American Embassy, but also media organizations, that were able to put pressure on the Egyptian authorities. The digital communique worked. On April 11, Buck sent another one-word tweet. It simply read: " Free ." 2008: A Platform to Share Major News When the Mars Phoenix found evidence of H2O on on the Red Planet in June 2008, it wasn't just the discovery that made headlines, it was also the way the organization choose to break the news. Rather than via an official … [Read more...] about 10 Moments on Twitter That Will Go Down in History
Will Eisner and the Secret History of the Graphic Novel
Art by Will Eisner. Photo: Abrams Books Graphic novels — that is, long-form narratives done in the style of comic books — have rocked the literary world in recent decades. Works like Maus , Persepolis , and Fun Home have garnered Pulitzers, given birth to film and theater adaptations, topped best-seller lists, and elevated comics art from a disdained medium into an acclaimed one. But who, exactly, invented the graphic novel? Debates over its origins have raged ever since the term graphic novel first came into vogue in the late 1970s. But new research is bringing us closer to an answer. The origin of the graphic novel is a bit of a detective story, and a principal suspect is the man profiled in the upcoming book Will Eisner: Champion of the Graphic Novel , written by longtime comics writer, editor, historian, and former president of DC Comics Paul Levitz. Eisner, who died in 2005 at the age of 87, was nothing short of a titan in the world of comics. He was a … [Read more...] about Will Eisner and the Secret History of the Graphic Novel

Both candidates in Indonesia election claim victory
PHUKET MEDIA WATCH – World news selected by Gazette editors for Phuket’s international community Both candidates in Indonesia election claim victory Reuters / Phuket Gazette PHUKET: Both candidates claimed victory in Indonesia’s presidential election on Wednesday, suggesting there could be a drawn out constitutional battle to decide who will next lead the world’s third-largest democracy. Just a few hours after voting closed, Jakarta governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said he had won, based on what are widely seen as independent quick counts of more than 90 percent of the votes. A victory for him would be seen as a triumph for a new breed of politician that has emerged in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy, and increase the promise of reform in government. But ex-general Prabowo Subianto, the rival candidate seen as a representative of the old guard that flourished under decades of autocratic rule, pointed to a quick count by other pollsters naming him the winner. He did … [Read more...] about Both candidates in Indonesia election claim victory
