Audi R8 ‘eye’ ad banned in UK
Because it connects speed with excitement. The rules governing what car commercials can and cannot depict in the United Kingdom are ridiculously tight. An ad for the latest Audi R8 has fallen foul of those rules, and been banned as a result by the Advertising Standards Agency. What was wrong with it? Well, according to the ASA, it connected speed with excitement. Which contravenes the British government’s message that speed of any sort is inherently dangerous. As far as the ASA is concerned, depicting speed as exciting is the same as depicting nuclear war as exciting; a self-evidently ridiculous notion that is irresponsible to air in public. The commercial in question shows an eye that widens and contracts as the R8’s 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V10 engine wails up through the gears. The sound then fades, and the soft background music comes to the fore as the camera cuts to an external shot of an R8 driving slowly around a corner. The slogan “More focus. Banksy: Prison wall painting appears in Reading on site campaigners want to be turned into arts centre
It looks like Banksy may have been in action once again, with an artwork in his signature style appearing on the side of a former prison in Reading. Depicting an inmate escaping down the side of the wall on a rope made of bedsheets, and tied to a typewriter, the painting was created overnight on Sunday at the former HM Prison in Reading, Berkshire , which closed in 2014. There are suggestions the Banksy -esque mural could be of one of the jail's most famous inmates, the poet and playwright Oscar Wilde, who was sentenced to two years after being convicted of gross indecency in 1895. It has drawn crowds since it was first spotted on Monday morning, but has not yet been claimed officially. The anonymous street artist will often post photographs of his work on Instagram to confirm they are his, and fans are waiting to see if this one will appear. Advertisement Banksy's last confirmed work was a painting showing an elderly-looking woman sneezing, … [Read more...] about Banksy: Prison wall painting appears in Reading on site campaigners want to be turned into arts centre

Text Message Causes Peugeot Ad To Be Banned
Ruling highlights wider issues around driver distractions caused by connected cars. A Peugeot TV advertisement in the United Kingdom has been banned after the advertising regulators said it showed a driver being distracted by an incoming text message. The advert, which was designed to advertise the connected technology fitted to the Peugeot 208 Allure Premium, showed a man driving while reading a text message that popped up on a screen built into the car’s dashboard. UK's Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) said that five people "challenged whether the ad was irresponsible," suggesting that it showed "driving behavior prejudicial to safety." Speaking in defence of both itself and Peugeot, Clearcast, "best known for clearing ads," told the ASA that "momentarily" reading a message on a screen in the dashboard was "no worse and arguably less distracting" than adjusting the radio. It also reiterated that the driver was "exercising proper control and was not distracted from the … [Read more...] about Text Message Causes Peugeot Ad To Be Banned
