Things are about to get a much needed shake-up in the low-to-midrange 3-D market, thanks to Maxon. The new version of the company's 3-D-animation system, Cinema 4D, dubbed R8 and without the usual XL suffix, is being offered for less than half the price of the previous version (Reviews, June 2002). The price decrease may sound like a desperate attempt to boost sales, as other high-profile 3-D-software companies have made recently. However, Cinema 4D R8 is a huge release for Maxon, so rather than keep the program in a single package, the company is offering different modular configurations at various prices. The entry-level Cinema 4D R8 Core has almost all the features of version 7, plus several improvements, for the paltry sum of $595. This is almost the same package that was in competition with Maya and LightWave and cost more than $1,500. To the Core What you don't get in R8 Core that was available in the previous version is radiosity and caustics, and the three-node NET … [Read more...] about Cinema 4D R8 Core

Ninjas! Bubble Tea! Piñatas! These are the 117 new emojis coming in 2020
Each year, we get new emojis on our iPhone, iPads, and Macs. They typically come with the new iOS and macOS updates in the fall (though sometimes they're added in a point-release shortly after). Who decides which new emojis we get? Emojis are defined by a group called the Unicode Consortium , comprised of representatives from a number of hardware and software companies. They agree on updates to the Unicode Standard, which is a common means of encoding and representing text in digital formats. It's the foundation of transmitting and displaying text on nearly all modern digital platforms. Emojis are a part of the Unicode standard, and the group gets together each year to decide which new icons will be added to the official list. On January 5, Unicode announced the final Emoji 13.0 list . These are the emojis all the different software platform makers will build into their software this year. New emojis for 2020 There are 117 new emojis this list, which breaks down into 62 … [Read more...] about Ninjas! Bubble Tea! Piñatas! These are the 117 new emojis coming in 2020
Home Pizza Maker Oven is perfect for your hungry ninja turtles
For example, a Home Pizza Maker Oven . The problem with trying to make a good pizza at home is that it's hard to get the crust properly crispy . You either need a pizza stone or a professional-grade oven; which, unless your initials are WHGIII you probably have neither the space nor money for. But the Home Pizza Maker Oven, which includes a removable stone base, only runs for about $120. Not only does it let you get your crust crispy—if you know what I mean—but the removable stone means you can use the oven for deep dish pizzas, omelets, and pancakes—that's all the major food groups right there. Plus, with a warm up time of five minutes and a cooking time of five minutes, you can have your delicious pizza in no time at all, with whatever toppings you desire. How to Disable the Mac Boot Chime Completely
If you’re a Mac owner you know that every time the Mac reboots or starts up it makes a startup chime sound. Though you can temporarily mute the chime by holding down the Mute key on any Mac keyboard, you can also choose to disable it completely by turning to the command line. To be clear, this will turn off the boot chime sound entirely, at least until it has been reversed with another terminal command string on the same Mac. This works in all modern versions of OS X on any modern Mac. Disabling the Mac Boot Chime Sound Launch Terminal, found in /Applications/Utilities/, then enter the following command to disable the boot chime: sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=%80 Enter the admin password when requested, which is required by usage of the sudo command. On your next reboot the Mac will be completely silent. Adjusting the parameter at the end of that command lets you change the total volume of that boot chime, but it appears to favor ascii characters. Note that some … [Read more...] about How to Disable the Mac Boot Chime Completely
Stop Control Center from Appearing in Games & Apps Accidentally in iOS 7
Control Center is one of the better features introduced to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch post iOS 7, but because it is accessed with a swipe up gesture it can be fairly easy to accidentally trigger. This is especially true in games where a lot of swiping goes on (like Fruit Ninja), but it can also show up unexpectedly in some apps where you may be swiping around the screen often to scroll around, including Safari. Apple must have anticipated this would have been a problem for some users, and they provide a simple settings toggle to prevent Control Center from being accessed inside apps. This leaves Control Center accessible from elsewhere on an iOS device when you need it, while simultaneously preventing it from unintentionally showing up due to a swipe up gesture within any app. Open Settings and tap on “Control Center” Flip the switch for “Access Within Apps” so that it’s OFF Exit out of Settings and enjoy your app or game as usual, minus Control Center … [Read more...] about Stop Control Center from Appearing in Games & Apps Accidentally in iOS 7
