We want to believe. Rarer than a Bugatti Chiron, the R8 E-Tron is one of the most exclusive cars ever made by Audi, but this wasn’t intentional. The original fully electric supercar based on the first-gen R8 never actually saw the light of production day while its successor was axed after being on the market for only about a year. During this interval, less than 100 examples were ever produced at an eye-watering €1 million ($1.15M in today’s money) a pop. Even though the R8 E-Tron has been haunted by failure, it seems Audi is determined to bring back. A new report from Automotive News indicates the PB 18 E-Tron concept due to be unveiled later this month during the Pebble Beach Car Week could serve as a preview for a new electric supercar. The R8 LMS, to be piloted by Ryan Dalziel, Parker Chase, Christopher Haase and Ezequiel Perez Companc, will join the plethora of throwback liveries in the 2019 WeatherTech SportsCar Series season-opener, as tribute to IMSA’s 50th season. But the now-familiar shape of the R8 will be adorned with what became the classic yet subtle Audi Sport colors from the 1980s – mainly white, with burnt orange/gray/black trimmings. This is aping the colors of the wild Audi 90 quattro that graced the GTO class in IMSA in ’89, and which became a firm fan favorite among GT fans, in much the same way as had the BMW CSL ‘Batmobile’ and the various iterations of Porsche 911 or Chevrolet Corvette. Marketing meets art. Art cars are not new. Artists use the automobile as a blank canvas for both beautiful and exciting works of art. No two are alike, and that’s the beauty of the art car. BMW is probably most famous for such creations , with a plethora of glammed-up examples. But other automakers have dipper their creative toes in the water, such as Rolls-Royce and Alfa Romeo in the recent past. Audi has, in the past, done an art car as well, but the Audi R8 here is not an official project of the automaker. Instead, aftermarket tuning company ABT Sportsline, known for taking performance Audi vehicles and turning them straight to insanity, commissioned the car. Because it connects speed with excitement. The rules governing what car commercials can and cannot depict in the United Kingdom are ridiculously tight. An ad for the latest Audi R8 has fallen foul of those rules, and been banned as a result by the Advertising Standards Agency. What was wrong with it? Well, according to the ASA, it connected speed with excitement. Which contravenes the British government’s message that speed of any sort is inherently dangerous. As far as the ASA is concerned, depicting speed as exciting is the same as depicting nuclear war as exciting; a self-evidently ridiculous notion that is irresponsible to air in public. The commercial in question shows an eye that widens and contracts as the R8’s 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V10 engine wails up through the gears. The hand-built Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is now in production, and should hit showrooms within two months. Find out more inside. Production has officially begun on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG gullwing.  The hand-built 563-horsepower sports car can travel form 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. That sprint time is achieved thanks to the gullwing's 6.3-liter (6208cc) V8 AMG engine that produces up to 650 Nm of torque.  The front-mid engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.  Top speed on the car is electronically-limited to 317 km/h, and combined fuel economy is rated at just over 17 mpg (13.2 liters per 100 km). Restaurants that rose to face the challenges during lockdown by delivering their extravagant dishes to customers' doorsteps have been rewarded with the ultimate accolades by Michelin judges.  Two female chefs were the standout winners of the Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland, which were announced via an online ceremony hosted by Davina McCall on Monday night.   Clare Smyth, who catered for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding, saw her Notting Hill restaurant Core going from two to three stars.  It is another accolade for the Northern Irish chef, who previously received the World's Best Female Chef award and was the first and only female chef to run a restaurant with three Michelin stars in the UK, at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.
