We want to believe. Rarer than a Bugatti Chiron, the R8 E-Tron is one of the most exclusive cars ever made by Audi, but this wasn’t intentional. The original fully electric supercar based on the first-gen R8 never actually saw the light of production day while its successor was axed after being on the market for only about a year. During this interval, less than 100 examples were ever produced at an eye-watering €1 million ($1.15M in today’s money) a pop. Even though the R8 E-Tron has been haunted by failure, it seems Audi is determined to bring back. A new report from Automotive News indicates the PB 18 E-Tron concept due to be unveiled later this month during the Pebble Beach Car Week could serve as a preview for a new electric supercar. The R8 LMS, to be piloted by Ryan Dalziel, Parker Chase, Christopher Haase and Ezequiel Perez Companc, will join the plethora of throwback liveries in the 2019 WeatherTech SportsCar Series season-opener, as tribute to IMSA’s 50th season. But the now-familiar shape of the R8 will be adorned with what became the classic yet subtle Audi Sport colors from the 1980s – mainly white, with burnt orange/gray/black trimmings. This is aping the colors of the wild Audi 90 quattro that graced the GTO class in IMSA in ’89, and which became a firm fan favorite among GT fans, in much the same way as had the BMW CSL ‘Batmobile’ and the various iterations of Porsche 911 or Chevrolet Corvette. The hand-built Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is now in production, and should hit showrooms within two months. Find out more inside. Production has officially begun on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG gullwing.  The hand-built 563-horsepower sports car can travel form 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. That sprint time is achieved thanks to the gullwing's 6.3-liter (6208cc) V8 AMG engine that produces up to 650 Nm of torque.  The front-mid engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.  Top speed on the car is electronically-limited to 317 km/h, and combined fuel economy is rated at just over 17 mpg (13.2 liters per 100 km). After getting its electric feet wet with the e-tron and e-tron Sportback SUVs, Audi is adding a third battery EV to its lineup. On Tuesday, the company revealed the car to the world, with one of its now-traditional light shows, albeit by livestream rather than in front of an audience. It's called the e-tron GT, and it's a sleek four-door, four-seater that shares more than a little with the excellent electric Porsche Taycan. Spot the difference Audi has been showing off an e-tron GT concept since 2019, and the production car differs very little from that show car, save for some sensors embedded in the front bodywork. The design language is very obviously Audi's, with hints of A7 fastback and R8 supercar depending on where you look. But aerodynamics have been at least as much a concern as curb appeal, as the drag coefficient is nice and low at 0.24. Audi has announced the E-Tron GT, an expensive new high-performance electric sedan built on technology developed for Porsche’s first EV, the Taycan. Due out this spring in Europe, the E-Tron GT will start at €99,800 with a top-spec RS version starting at €138,200. It will then come stateside in the summer, with the base GT starting at $99,900 and the RS beginning at $139,900. For all of that money, buyers will get the most performance that Audi has squeezed out of an electric car to date. The standard E-Tron GT can output 350kW of power, or roughly 470 horsepower, while the RS version boasts 440kW, or about 590 horsepower. In overboost mode, those numbers jump to 522 horsepower and 637 horsepower, respectively. With overboost and launch control, the E-Tron GT can sprint to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.1 seconds, and the RS version makes that run in 3.3 seconds.
