MONTAGE: Daily News Police are tracking down the driver of a Mercedes Benz who gave ambulance drivers ‘the finger’ after refusing to give way to the screeching sirens of the ambulance trying to get a patient to hospital. The ambulance travelling between Phyathai 2 and Phyathai Hospital (Sri Racha) in central Bangkok on Saturday. The relatives of the patient described the incident as “unbelievable” after the black Mercedes Benz refused to give way to the ambulance. In fact, it appeared to impede the ambulance from getting past. Not giving way was bad enough but he added a final insult by giving the ambulance drivers a ‘middle finger salute’ before turning off the expressway. During the video it also appears that the black Benz appears to veer slightly to the left as the ambulance was attempting to change lanes to get past the car. Passenger leaps to safety as taxi crashes, driver asleep
A girl leaped from a moving taxi yesterday, possibly saving her life, as the car immediately crashed into the tollway wall, causing a 4-car pileup. The taxi driver had fallen asleep. The incident occurred on the north tollway at the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok province intersection northeast of Bangkok. The girl posted on Twitter that the taxi driver was in a deep sleep and she tried to wake him. When the driver opened his eyes, he didn’t brake but continued driving. “If anyone saw a person jump out of a car onto the tollway that was me. The story is, I called a taxi to go back to my condo in Rangsit. Suddenly the car collided with the tollway wall and I thought in my head that I was surely going to die. Taxi driver gets 4 years for longboarder’s ‘road rage’ death
A cab driver convicted by a jury of manslaughter was sentenced Friday to four years in prison for running over a longboarder in what the judge called an “instant of unbridled road rage.” Surveillance video played during the trial showed longboarder Ralph Bissonnette, 28, moving parallel with Ambassador cab driver Adib Ibrahim on King St. E in 2012. Bissonnette died from crushing brain injuries caused by the collision. Lucky escape for Phuket driver as police hunt 18-wheeler
PHUKET: A 19-year-old man escaped serious injury when the Isuzu pickup he was driving slammed into an 18-wheeled truck and trailer on Thepkrasattri Road in the north of Phuket this afternoon. Thalang Police duty officer Patiwat Yodkwan arrived at the scene, near the Baan Muang Mai market in Thalang, at about 1:30pm to find Mr Ken Patan still pinned inside his black Isuzu D-MAX pickup truck. Kusoldharm Foundation rescue workers removed him from the vehicle and took him to Thalang Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries to his left wrist and cuts to his face from broken glass. Police told the Phuket Gazette that Mr Ken was reportedly cut off by the 18-wheeler as it made a sudden u-turn in front of him, leaving Mr Ken no option other than crash into the truck. Phuket motorcycle taxi driver nabbed for swiping wallet
PHUKET: Police arrested a Phuket man early yesterday morning for swiping a wallet from a tour guide counter in Patong. Patong Police received a complaint from 47-year-old tour agent Urailuck Chaiphan that her wallet had been stolen from the M.E.G. tour counter. “We investigated CCTV footage and saw that the suspect had a tattoo on his arm and was wearing a motorcycle taxi driver vest,” Sutthichai Thianpho of the Patong Police told the Phuket Gazette . “We believed the suspect to be Anuchet Kenthao, 29.” The suspect was apprehended as he was picking up his wife that morning from a shop called Tong Nuang ‘111’. “When he arrived at 12:05am, we presented ourselves as police and showed him the CCTV footage of the theft,” Lt Col Sutthichai said. Driver in stoning incident files attempted murder charges
PHUKET: A driver whose car was pelted with stones, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a power pole on Tuesday, filed attempted murder charges against the motorcyclist responsible for it. The accused motorcyclist, Anucha Yeemuda, 21, was initially charged with assault and causing damage to property after he turned himself in to the police (story here ). The car driver Jatuporn Kanpai, 25, and his wife Sunisa Kongkamkaew, 22, were taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital while their one-year-old daughter was rushed to Phuket International Hospital. Ms Sunisa broke her leg in the incident. Mr Anucha claimed that Mr Jatuporn started the altercation by repeatedly cutting him off while he and his wife, Kanittha Yeemuda, 26, were travelling by motorbike. PHUKET: Police in Phuket targeted drunk drivers, arresting hundreds of people driving under the influence yesterday, while relaxing their efforts to enforce other banned Songkran activities, the Phuket Gazette was told today. Prior to yesterday’s celebrations, a nationwide ban that Phuket police said that they would be strictly enforcing was put on sexy outfits, sexy dancing and rolling water-fight trucks. Police stations given quotas for drunk driver arrests
PHUKET: Police officers were given the green light to pull over and arrest anyone suspected of drunk driving in Phuket, after it was revealed that they would now need to make more than 150 drunk driving arrests a month. The penalty for driving under the influence is up to two years in prison, a 10,000 baht fine or both, confirmed Phuket Provincial Police Commander Teeraphol Thipjaroen at a meeting with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and concerned officers. “However, the goal isn’t to catch drunk drivers, it’s to prevent people who have been drinking from getting behind the wheel of their car or handlebars of their motorbike,” Col Teeraphol said. “High season has started, which usually leads to more road accidents.
