Marketing meets art. Art cars are not new. Artists use the automobile as a blank canvas for both beautiful and exciting works of art. No two are alike, and that’s the beauty of the art car. BMW is probably most famous for such creations , with a plethora of glammed-up examples. But other automakers have dipper their creative toes in the water, such as Rolls-Royce and Alfa Romeo in the recent past. Audi has, in the past, done an art car as well, but the Audi R8 here is not an official project of the automaker. Instead, aftermarket tuning company ABT Sportsline, known for taking performance Audi vehicles and turning them straight to insanity, commissioned the car. Golden Globes 2021: Daniel Kaluuya on mute, animal invasions and too many doors – the seven best moments
It was a night when stars accepted awards in tracksuit bottoms, pyjamas and hoodies from rooms with too many doors, and the hosts presented from different coasts (albeit with a whizzy background to make them appear united). But despite heading into the 78th Golden Globes under a cloud of criticism over lack of diversity and dubious nomination choices , the ceremony was relatively hitch-free. Finishing (almost) on time, and with an admirable cast of winners (including a host of British stars) there were laughs, tears and glimpses of stars' homes across the world as Hollywood enjoyed its first big awards ceremony of 2021. We take a look at seven of the best bits of the night. Golden Globes updates: Here's what happened at the virtual ceremony Daniel, you're on mute! One of the many iPhone 13 rumors that have come our way in the last few months is the idea that the device could ditch the Lightning connection entirely and go completely portless – and we just got some more details about how this might be achieved. Humanitarian airship seeks world’s most powerful hydrogen fuel cell
"Ironic" probably isn't the right word to describe the lack of public information about Sergey Brin's airship company. Who better to know the worth of staying private than one of the co-creators of a search engine that changed the world, after all. But to those who know where to look—like eagle-eyed journalist Mark Hughes —some details about LTA's plans have made it out into the open. Hughes spotted a rather revealing job opening at the company for someone to manage a hydrogen fuel cell program. The really interesting part of the job posting shows up in the list of primary responsibilities: Engineering hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system through configuration of 1.5MW airship propulsion system including H2 storage, fuel cells, H2O capture, batteries, stern drive, and smaller electric motors and gear trains and retrofit of 750KW fuel cell system on existing airship Yes, you did read that correctly, LTA is indeed working on configuring a 1.5 MW fuel cell system. For context, … [Read more...] about Humanitarian airship seeks world’s most powerful hydrogen fuel cell
Zebra adds social distancing warnings to warehouse workers’ barcode scanners
OAKLAND, Calif.: Zebra Technologies Corp, which sells barcode scanners and other computers used in warehouses globally, introduced a feature on Thursday that sounds an alert when workers breach physical distancing guidelines over the novel coronavirus. Warehouses and factories have been trying to avert outbreaks with greater separation of workers than ever before, putting plastic shields around workstations and testing smartwatches and other gadgets that buzz to signal people are too close. However, this is the first time such functionality has been incorporated into the specialized devices that warehouse workers use on a daily basis. Zebra's alerting works on a handful of models already installed by its large retail, transport and manufacturing customers, Chief Technology Officer Tom Bianculli said in an interview. The devices, which run hundreds of dollars each, exchange Bluetooth radio signals that are used to estimate distance. Customers also can choose to track … [Read more...] about Zebra adds social distancing warnings to warehouse workers’ barcode scanners
32 US senators urge FCC to reconsider Ligado spectrum order
WASHINGTON: A bipartisan group of 32 U.S. senators on Friday urged the Federal Communications Commission to reconsider a decision to allow Ligado Networks to deploy a low-power nationwide mobile broadband network, saying it could pose severe risks to global positioning systems crucial to military operations. The letter, led by Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Jim Inhofe, a Republican, and ranking Democrat Jack Reed, follows a hearing in which Pentagon leaders argued the decision may result in businesses turning to Russian- or Chinese-based space navigation systems to replace GPS. The letter to all five FCC commissioners called on them to halt and reconsider the decision and "more fully consider the technical concerns raised by numerous federal agencies and private sector stakeholders." A spokesman for FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said "any allegation that the Commission moved too quickly in making a decision on this matter is preposterous. The commission imposed stringent … [Read more...] about 32 US senators urge FCC to reconsider Ligado spectrum order
