Watch Porsche 911 Turbo S Crush Both GT-R Nismo, Audi R8 In A Drag Race

What. A. Rocket. Ever since people have been getting their hands on the 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S , the ultimate 911 has been gaining attention in terms of performance, and rightfully so. It has continuously proved that it's worthy of the name, and this latest drag race video is no exception from that. The contenders in the latest Carwow video aren't exactly slackers. The first one is a Nissan GT-R Nismo , also at the top of the Japanese marque's range. The Audi R8's the other one, and we all know that it's practically a tamer Lamborghini Huracan. Gallery: 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S 9 Photos The matchup sounds a bit diverse at an initial glance. The Japanese coupe has its mill up front, while the two Germans have theirs behind the seats – though one's rear-mounted and the other's a rear mid-engined supercar . Taxi driver gets 4 years for longboarder’s ‘road rage’ death

A cab driver convicted by a jury of manslaughter was sentenced Friday to four years in prison for running over a longboarder in what the judge called an “instant of unbridled road rage.” Surveillance video played during the trial showed longboarder Ralph Bissonnette, 28, moving parallel with Ambassador cab driver Adib Ibrahim on King St. E in 2012. RELATED: Cab driver convicted of manslaughter in longboarder’s death The Crown argued that Ibrahim, a longtime cab driver, veered his car into Bissonnette likely motivated by an interaction they’d had shortly before. Bissonnette died from crushing brain injuries caused by the collision. Ibrahim, 47, testified that the collision was an accident, and he failed to see Bissonnette while making a lane change in preparation for turning right. The Crown had asked for a sentence of seven to nine years, while the defence had asked for a 90-day sentence to be served on weekends. Bissonnette was a young man with a bright future ahead … [Read more...] about Taxi driver gets 4 years for longboarder’s ‘road rage’ death

COVID-19: Greece invites Britons to start booking holidays as it targets 40 islands for vaccinations

Greece's tourism minister has said Britons hoping for a summer holiday in the country can start booking as it prioritises giving the COVID vaccine to the inhabitants of around 40 small islands. The islands, which each have a population of less than 1,000 people, include Halki near Rhodes, Kastellorizo off the Turkish coast, Meganisi in the Ionian Sea and Kythira in the Peloponnese peninsula, according to the Daily Telegraph. Larger destinations such as Mykonos, Santorini and Corfu will be targeted once Greece's tiniest islands have been vaccinated, the newspaper said. However, UK government has said the earliest date people from England can travel abroad for a holiday is 17 May - that is provided the four tests for easing lockdown are met. Follow live COVID-19 updates from the UK and around the world Advertisement Greek tourism minister Harry Theoharis told the Telegraph: "If you're going to send a medical team to an island with a small population, … [Read more...] about COVID-19: Greece invites Britons to start booking holidays as it targets 40 islands for vaccinations

Paffett in frame for DTM return with Mercedes team

The driving force behind Paffett’s comeback is believed to be the Schaeffler Group, which has been a series partner of the DTM for several months and is also working with the championship on the DTM Electric project for 2023. Schaeffler, together with Paravan, has developed a steer-by-wire system that is set to be run by the Mucke team in its Mercedes AMG GT3 this year. Both Schaeffler and Paravan would like to have Paffett in the car, with the British driver having spent 15 consecutive seasons in the DTM as a factory Mercedes driver and scored 23 race wins on top of his two title successes. Paffett’s chances of a comeback have been boosted by Schaeffler-Paravan’s appointment of former HWA man Hubert Hugle. Hugle had been in-charge of technology at HWA for several years and also served as its DTM Development Manager, and thus worked closely with the British driver until Mercedes’ exit from the series after 2018. Paffett’s return would also sit well with DTM boss … [Read more...] about Paffett in frame for DTM return with Mercedes team

Pant showed great courage, probably his finest knock: Rohit

'He was cautious at the beginning and then he actually flourished like we know Rishabh can' 'The partnership between Washington and Rishabh was so important from the team's perspective. They put us in the driver's seat' IMAGE: Rishabh Pant defended when it was necessary but unlocked his brutal attacking instincts when required. Photograph: BCCI Rishabh Pant's attacking style of batting has the Indian team management's mandate as long as he gets the 'job done' more often than not and people should cut him some slack when there is an odd failure, feels senior batsman Rohit Sharma. "Pant has his own style of batting. Obviously there have been messages, as to how he needs to approach his innings. He seems to be batting in his own style which is great from our perspective as well, because he seems to be getting the job done, which is more important," Rohit said at the post-match press conference. Rohit could empathise a lot with Pant as he too has seen the … [Read more...] about Pant showed great courage, probably his finest knock: Rohit

DR MICHAEL MOSLEY: Can statins save you from Covid as well as heart disease?

Back in 1986 I made a film for the BBC science series Tomorrow’s World about a remarkable new class of drugs called statins. Studies had shown that statins could cut people’s risk of heart disease by lowering their cholesterol levels. It was all very exciting. Thirty-five years on and statins are now one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in the UK, with around eight million people, including me, taking them daily. Yet they continue to be dogged by controversy and fear of side-effects. Studies had shown that statins could cut people’s risk of heart disease by lowering their cholesterol levels. It was all very exciting Last year, for example, there were claims that statins might increase your risk of dying from Covid-19. Studies had shown that people admitted to intensive care tended to have lower levels of cholesterol, so there was a fear that taking cholesterol-lowering drugs might make you more vulnerable. Well, like so many health scares, this one turned … [Read more...] about DR MICHAEL MOSLEY: Can statins save you from Covid as well as heart disease?

Giving her followers a step-by-step guide, the woman explained how she originally saw the "life hack" recommended by TikTok user Terra Bee. She wrote: "Lived on my own for five years and never knew this." As nothing would fit under the washing machine's plug, the woman simply lay a towel around it absorb the smelly water. She then unscrewed the plug and wiped any lingering cleaning products on the towel. "Not as bad as I expected," she wrote. "Will 100% do this regularly from now on." Universal Credit calculator: How much can you get?

UNIVERSAL Credit is a single monthly payment that rolls six benefits into one. The payments are calculated depending on your individual circumstances so yours won't necessarily be the same as someone else's. It's designed to help people on lower incomes, but the government says it should also help people get back into work. But the more you work the more your benefits will be affected. This is because Universal Credit is subject to the taper rate, which means that for every £1 you earn over a certain allowance, 63p is deducted from your payments. We believe you should be able to keep hold of more of your cash. The Sun wants the taper rate to be slashed to 50p to help at least four million struggling families. But until then, we talk you through how your Universal Credit payment is worked out and how getting a job will affect your payments. Universal Credit calculators TRYING to work out how much Universal Credit you can get can be overwhelming. There … [Read more...] about Universal Credit calculator: How much can you get?

At least 4 dead in Senegal protests

At least four people have been killed in violent clashes in Senegal over the past few days between police and supporters of detained opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, the interior minister said on Friday. The leader of the Pastef party, Sonko appeared in court on Friday to defend himself against rape charges that he claims are politically motivated. His appearance sparked renewed clashes, the latest as part of protests that have taken place on a daily basis in the West African country since Wednesday. "The government regrets the loss of four lives" in events "that are rooted in banditry and insurrection," Interior Minister Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome said on television. He accused Sonko of "issuing calls to violence." Some protesters built barricades to defend themselves in clashes with security forces in Dakar What has sparked the clashes in Senegal? Sonko's largely younger supporters are angry at his arrest and the court case against him. The 46-year-old devout … [Read more...] about At least 4 dead in Senegal protests

Postal worker left in stitches by unfortunate typo on delivery instructions

It's always frustrating to miss a delivery after waiting days for it to show up. Thankfully, with online orders we're able to add delivery instructions asking for our precious parcels to be left in a safe place or dropped off with a friendly neighbour to avoid an even longer wait. But one postal worker was left in hysterics when a customer's request contained an unfortunate typing error that changed the innocent instruction into something else entirely. An image of the message was shared on Reddit with the caption: "As a postie I'll go above and beyond for you, but this, this is new." The delivery instructions on the screen read: "There is a deliver to safeplace request for this item. Attempt delivery to customer first. If they are not in leave this item in their nominated place: Enclosed porch. "Additional information: Please ring bell after pooping in porch. Thank you." Luckily for everyone, the door was answered and the delivery was successful, but it didn't stop the … [Read more...] about Postal worker left in stitches by unfortunate typo on delivery instructions
