Narendra Modi Stadium: India Government issues clarification over Motera Stadium name change; find out
The commotion erupted soon after President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, which has been branded as the 'Narendra Modi Stadium.' The social media space was flooded with remarks including by some leaders of the Congress and other Opposition parties who alleged that the renaming exercise amounted to an "insult" to Sardar Patel. Javadekar, however, told reporters that only the Motera stadium has been renamed and the complex continues to be named after Vallabhbhai Patel. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who was present alongside Javadekar at the media briefing after a cabinet meeting, took a swipe at the Congress leaders, asking whether party chief Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi have so far praised the world's tallest statue of Sardar Patel erected at Kevadiya in Gujarat. Prasad continued, "I want to say this with full responsibility that a tourist place getting global praise has not been visited yet or praised by the two Congress … [Read more...] about Narendra Modi Stadium: India Government issues clarification over Motera Stadium name change; find out
Uthappa stars with second ton as unbeaten Kerala climb to the top
VIJAY HAZARE TROPHY 2020-21 by Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on Share Tweet Robin Uthappa made it two centuries from three innings. © BCCI GROUP C Kerala v Railways Robin Uthappa made it two centuries from three innings (the other was an 81) to start the Vijay Hazare Trophy as Kerala won a thrilling battle of the unbeaten sides against Railways by seven runs. Uthappa was one of two centurions for Kerala with fellow opener Vishnu Vinod scoring 107 in a 193-run stand. Sanju Samson bludgeoned 61 off 29 while Vathsal Govind added 46 from 34 to give the side an imposing 351 on the board. Railways went after the chase gamely with as many as four half-centurions -- Mrunal Devdhar (79), Arindam Ghosh (64), Harsh Tyagi (58) and Saurabh Singh (50) -- but the failure of any one of those to kick on and score a big one like the Kerala openers did cost them. India vs England, 3rd Test: Axar Patel’s six-for, Ashwin spin out visitors for 112 at Motera Stadium
Axar, playing in just his second Test, scalped six wickets while Ashwin returned with three wickets as the visitors were bowled out in just 48.4 overs. This was Axar's second five-wicket haul in a row as he had scalped five in the second innings of the second Test as well. Resuming the second session at 81/4, England got off to the worst possible start as both Ben Stokes (6) and Ollie Pope (1) were sent back to the pavilion. Stokes was trapped plumb in front of the wickets and as a result, Axar was rewarded with his third wicket. Ashwin on the other hand sent Pope packing for just 1. If the former England players were critical of the Chepauk wicket, the lack of application from the English batsmen in the first innings of the third Test can have no excuses. Playing down the wrong line was the crux of the story and just like the top-order batsmen, Jofra Archer (11) too tried to cut a straight delivery and was clean bowled by Axar as the visitors were reduced to 93/7. This was … [Read more...] about India vs England, 3rd Test: Axar Patel’s six-for, Ashwin spin out visitors for 112 at Motera Stadium
India vs England, 3rd Test: Worried about the lights, players will need to adapt quickly, says Kohli
The refurbished stadium, the largest cricketing arena in the world, doesn't have the traditional floodlight towers but a ring of LED lights around the perimeter of its roof. It is similar to the 'ring of fire' at the Dubai International Stadium, which often poses a challenge to the fielding side. "It is such an exciting atmosphere here at the largest cricket stadium. I'm a bit more worried about the lights than the colour of the seats," Kohli said at the toss ahead of the day/night Test against England. "When it gets lost with the lights at the back, it's hard to spot the ball. We've played at a similar stadium at Dubai. It's about angles, body positions. You need to adapt pretty quickly," Kohli added. Mainland opposes attempts seeking ‘Taiwan independence’: spokesperson
BEIJING -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday voiced resolute opposition to any attempt seeking "Taiwan independence," including making it convenient for the separatist forces, through the so-called "constitutional amendments." Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the comments while responding to a question regarding the island legislative body's plan to initiate the so-called "constitutional amendments." Separatist activities seeking "Taiwan independence" severely undermine the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and pose threats to peace and stability across the Strait, said Ma. Seriously harming the common interests of the compatriots on both sides of the Strait and the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, such activities will face resolute countermeasures from the mainland, he added. … [Read more...] about Mainland opposes attempts seeking ‘Taiwan independence’: spokesperson
