The EU-US disagreement culminated in 2019, when the WTO ruled that the EU subsidies paid to Airbus were illegal and gave the go-ahead to the US to impose countervailing duties on its trade partner. In October 2019, the US introduced custom tariffs against $7.5 bn of EU goods, with Italian and Dutch cheese, and wines coming from France, Spain and Germany the primary victims of the 25-percent tariff. … [Read more...] about Paris Calls For a ‘Pause’ in US-EU Trade Dispute as New Tariffs on French Wine Enter Into Force

What do we want from Ubisoft’s open world Star Wars game?
Are we excited that Massive is making a Star Wars game?Tim Clark, Brand Director: I love this. It's one of those announcements that just seems such a good fit that your brain immediately spins up with ideas. I played a lot of The Division, and only less of its sequel because by that point my Destiny 2 addiction had spiraled so irrevocably out of control. But if we're to assume that this new Star Wars game will be some sort of shared-world looter shooter, then the license feels like an incredibly good fit. What I think the continued love for KOTOR tells us is that Star Wars fans want to live in this universe, not just blow through a quick campaign like Fallen Order, and although live service loot games have a bit of a bad rap right now—largely I think because they're so hard to get right—Massive is one of very few studios with the experience to pull it off. … [Read more...] about What do we want from Ubisoft’s open world Star Wars game?

America’s future in space ensures fairness for all in an unjust world
These technologies did not magically appear. The space economy must continue to foresee the nation’s and the world community’s challenges to also utilize space technologies that help life on Earth. Consider the role that space plays in climate research, such as insurance and weather forecasting by calculating sea level changes and farming crop development. Between 2040 and 2060, as humanity continues to rely on space-derived capabilities from deeper in the solar system, how will we build the space economy, especially its market mechanisms and infrastructure to solve — rather than multiply — 21st-century problems? … [Read more...] about America’s future in space ensures fairness for all in an unjust world

WTO Allows EU to Slap Tariffs on $4Bn in US Goods Over Boeing Spat
Washington and Brussels have been engaged in a spat over aircraft subsidies since 2004, accusing one another of providing illegal government financial assistance to their respective aircraft-makers. Boeing's complaint is that Airbus has received "launch aid" to its projects in the form of state credits from European governments, and Airbus has alleged that its American competitor gets implicit subsidies through billions of dollars poured into the company by the Pentagon, and through tax breaks. The two sides formally filed cases against one another in the EU in 2005, with the spat raging ever since. … [Read more...] about WTO Allows EU to Slap Tariffs on $4Bn in US Goods Over Boeing Spat
