The three-storey Brand Centre had been a centrepiece of the F1 paddock since it first appeared back in 2007. It featured 13.5-metres of solar glass facade on the front and included kitchens, catering areas, meeting rooms, driver rooms, and office space for marketing and media staff. But as part of F1’s move to a more sustainable future, the huge logistics of transporting motorhomes on lorries around Europe has come under the spotlight. With teams evaluating how to reduce travelling costs and the carbon impact of everything they do, McLaren has decided to scale back its famous motorhome. Rather than start from scratch with an all-new structure, the team will refurbish and configure the Brand Centre for its return in a much reduced size. The new motorhome, which will be renamed, is set to appear for the first time at the Monaco Grand Prix. It will need just eight trucks to be transported, rather than the 17 that the Brand Centre required. Read Also: … [Read more...] about McLaren to downsize its iconic F1 motorhome

Robots, rappers, and rasslers: The most bizarre NFT projects yet
NFTs, aka non-fungible tokens , are all the rage right now. A way of storing artwork on the blockchain for fun and profit, it’s an attempt to create artificial scarcity in a world of endless digital reproducibility. The simplest way to think of an NFT is, essentially, as a digital autograph. While a piece of artwork in the real world could be endlessly copied, a genuine signature on that artwork is only authentic in the original version. As such, NFTs provide a way to sell ownership of a particular artwork online. With NFT mania running wild, there’s no shortage of unusual non-fungible projects coming out of the woodwork. Some, like Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s first tweet selling for $2.9 million as an NFT , are well known. But others — from robot-created artworks to collaborations with rap royalty — have not been quite so highly publicized. Here are four recent NFT projects likely to raise eyebrows (and, perhaps, some serious bank). NFTs created by robot artists Robots … [Read more...] about Robots, rappers, and rasslers: The most bizarre NFT projects yet
Why does America have the Electoral College — and should we keep it?
Watch the CBSN Originals documentary " Do We Still Need the Electoral College? " in the video player above. When Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, he became the fourth president in American history — and the second since 2000 — to win a presidential election despite losing the popular vote. Clinton received nearly 3 million more votes nationwide. But in the Electoral College — which ultimately decides who wins the presidency — Mr. Trump received 306 votes to Clinton's 232. In 2020 , despite Joe Biden 's commanding 7 million vote lead in the popular vote , just a few thousand votes in key states could have swung the election for Donald Trump. Cases like these have fueled efforts to reform the Electoral College or do away with it entirely, but some say it still serves an important purpose. How did we end up with this system for choosing a president? Stanford University professor of history and political science Jack Rakove … [Read more...] about Why does America have the Electoral College — and should we keep it?
Adam and Christ: the priest at the origin and original priest
Kindly Share This Story: By Fr George Adimike From the rupture of Adam’s priesthood in Genesis, the exodus, in search of grace to make all things new, continues and reaches its destination in Jesus Christ. The new covenant, which revealed the fullness of grace and truth, Jesus the Christ of God (cf. Jn 1:14), also funded a new appreciation of the priesthood in its original essence. The search from Adam, the priest at the origin, to Christ, the original priest, traversed three typologies, none of which approximated the reality and originality of the priesthood of Christ. The patriarchal priesthood, the priesthood of Melchizedek and the Levitical priesthood represented by the figures of Abraham, Melchizedek and Aaron, functioned as types anticipating and pointing to the original (cf. Hebrews 7). The Jewish roots of the Christian priesthood spell an understanding of the priesthood that is continuity in discontinuity. Though Adam was the first high priest of the … [Read more...] about Adam and Christ: the priest at the origin and original priest

Opinion: Falcon And The Winter Soldier Has A Villain Problem
Throughout WandaVision's early episodes, viewers complained that the show needed a villain . The next MCU show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, has the opposite problem: The show has two villains, but neither really works. Karli Morgenthau and John Walker each fit the definition of an antagonist for Sam and Bucky, but neither is a good villain--albeit for very different reasons. Let's talk about John Walker first. The new Captain America, borrowing from the stories of "US Agent" in the comics, is a decorated soldier who took up the iconic shield at the behest of the US government. After injecting himself with the supersoldier serum and losing his best friend Lemar during battle in Episode 4, the unsavory elements of John's character won out, and he's been on an overtly villainous path ever since. The problem with John is he was never likeable to begin with. On Falcon and Winter Soldier, we haven't witnessed the tragic corruption of a previously sympathetic character, like … [Read more...] about Opinion: Falcon And The Winter Soldier Has A Villain Problem

Baybayin’s victory
ABOUT 12 years ago, there was information that was so wrong but had become such common knowledge that you wanted it thrown off the face of the earth. One of these was that the name for the ancient Filipino script was “alibata.” It was in everyone’s mouth: alibata. I learned the term in school and actually believed it until I went to college and was corrected. Apparently, the term alibata was invented by a certain Professor Paul Versoza while in the New York Public Library in 1914. He actually knew that the early Filipinos called it something else, “baybayin,” but gave it a new name anyway. Subsequently, I learned that alibata came from the first letters of the Arabic alphabet — alif, ba, ta. Of course, the term would be wrong because it is not an alphabet or per letter but actually a syllabary or per syllable, which makes baybayin (to spell out) more appropriate. You rarely hear or read about alibata now, thanks to the efforts of history professors, AP teachers and baybayin … [Read more...] about Baybayin’s victory
Diablo 2: Resurrected players used old mods to access hidden classes
Last weekend's Diablo 2: Resurrected alpha might've ostensibly limited players to three classes. But it seems crafty modders were able to use years-old tricks to access other classes in the dungeon-crawler's line-up. As spotted by PCGamesN , players quickly spotted that much of Resurrected's underlying code is shared with the 2000 original. That means that it wasn't too much trouble to grab old Hero Editor mods and start swapping in classes Blizzard never meant to make public. The Diablo 2 subreddit was pretty quickly populated by videos showing off some of these hidden classes, including the Paladin , Druid , and the Necromancer shown below. Bear in mind that, as they weren't included in the public alpha, treat these classes as being even more "work-in-progress". Resurrected is intentionally sticking close to the original game's code, to the extent that your 20-year-old save files will still work with the remaster . Considering the limited nature of the alpha, … [Read more...] about Diablo 2: Resurrected players used old mods to access hidden classes
