The “VIP” Seats At This Year’s Inauguration, Like Everything Else In 2021, Were On Zoom
The fundraising circuit in Democratic politics was once the literal physical axis of money, influence, and cronyism that would converge not in smoky backrooms exactly but in the richly appointed living rooms of the very wealthy. Now it is the Zoom circuit. Tickets still cost money, but they don’t get you in a room with the president. They get you a Zoom link where the main attraction usually reads from a script and maybe takes questions before everyone clicks the bright red “Leave Meeting” button at the bottom of the screen. These are tepid affairs. They can produce unlikely combinations and hard pivots: the members of Pearl Jam asking Jill Biden about the death of Beau Biden, Doug Emhoff interviewing James Taylor. There is no ambiance, per se. The window of a Zoom call, even a private, password-protected Zoom call, does not feel like a place of community where candid statements and confidences can flow freely. It was at a fundraiser, over the clinking of expensive … [Read more...] about The “VIP” Seats At This Year’s Inauguration, Like Everything Else In 2021, Were On Zoom
Lenovo Yoga 9i 14 Review: An excellent convertible with yesterday’s display
Finally, I ran two PCMark 10 tests. The first, the Gaming battery benchmark, stresses the CPU and GPU to emulate demanding tasks while using the battery. The Yoga 9i 14 lasted for just over two hours, which is roughly average across the laptops we’ve tested. The XPS 13 9310 Full HD lasted for almost four hours and was much more efficient at balancing CPU and GPU use against battery life, while the MSI Prestige 14 Evo lasted for about 30 minutes less than the Yoga. In the PCMark 10 Applications battery test, which emulates a typical productivity workload, the Yoga 9i 14 lasted the longest of any machine we’ve tested, going for 14.45 hours. The next closest machine was the XPS 13 that lasted for just under 11 hours. … [Read more...] about Lenovo Yoga 9i 14 Review: An excellent convertible with yesterday’s display
