The Buzzer: Canucks win in return from COVID-19 protocol (Sunday in NHL)

3 Stars for Sunday in the NHL 1. Boston Bruins’ top line Honestly, you could probably pick Brad Marchand , Patrice Bergeron , and David Pastrnak for each of the three stars for Sunday in the NHL and call it a night. Even if, uh, they played during the afternoon. Either way, it isn’t easy to distinguish the top star from the Bruins’ 6-3 win against the Capitals . From a volume perspective, Brad Marchand led the way. He generated two goals and two assists for four points. Interestingly, it’s been feast-or-famine for Marchand lately. Over the last five games, Marchand’s been held pointless on three occasions, yet two outbursts put him at six points (4G, 2A) in his past five contests. With Taylor Hall bolstering what now looks like a strong Bruins second line , Boston’s in a better position to handle the occasional pointless night from one or more members of “The Perfection Line.” Speaking of the others, Bergeron didn’t get involved in a late empty-net goal, but … [Read more...] about The Buzzer: Canucks win in return from COVID-19 protocol (Sunday in NHL)

Allison doesn’t want Mercedes F1 team boss role – Wolff

It was announced last week that, as of July 1, Allison will hold a newly-created position of chief technical officer, a change that some interpreted as a possible first step to him eventually being the overall head of the team. Wolff retains the team principal job for the foreseeable future, having explored his options over the past year. The Austrian has made it clear that he will eventually move aside, but he stressed that the job won't go to Allison. "I would say if you look at things, he would absolutely be capable to be the team principal," Wolff said of Allison. "And also the people here, there's so much respect [for him] within the organisation. "But the thing is very easy. He said, 'Never, ever I would do this. Team principal requires different skills.' Canadian connections of Keith Raniere’s NXIVM sex cult ran deep

In this excerpt from “Don’t Call it a Cult: The Shocking Story of Keith Raniere and the Women behind NXIVM,” Sarah Berman looks at the group’s heavy connections in the artistic world, and in Canada. Actor Chad Krowchuk still remembers the curious way talk of NXIVM buzzed through his social network. He first heard good reviews from (Vancouver-born actor) Sarah Edmondson over dinner one night, and then from his acting friends Kristin Kreuk and Mark Hildreth a few weeks later. Krowchuk didn’t know what to make of all his friends’ hyperbolic gushing; he assumed there must be a catch. But his longtime girlfriend, “Smallville” actor Allison Mack, would eventually convince him to make the trip from Vancouver to attend a five-day intensive with her in Albany. Krowchuk is blond, with a worried intensity about him. He’s often cast as the wide-eyed dork who’s underestimated by an alpha male protagonist. Mack, on the other hand, was known for swooning eagerness and golly-gee smiles. Her … [Read more...] about Canadian connections of Keith Raniere’s NXIVM sex cult ran deep

Messi nets 2, Barcelona beats Bilbao 4-0 to win Copa del Rey

If Lionel Messi isn’t happy at Barcelona, it was impossible to tell on Saturday when he scored two goals in another masterful performance to brush aside Athletic Bilbao and win the Copa del Rey. Messi climbed into the tribune after leading the 4-0 win and lifted the trophy high above his head and turned to his team on the pitch below. For his teammates, coach, and millions of anxious fans, it was easy to read so much into that broad grin, that vigorous shake of the huge cup. Was Messi finally seeing the folly of ever thinking he could find a better home? Or was the club’s all-time leading scorer relieved that he could give Barcelona at least one more title before saying goodbye? Messi did not mention his future after he received the trophy from Spain’s King Felipe VI, one of the few dignitaries along with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in attendance at a stadium closed to fans due to coronavirus restrictions. Instead, Messi focused on those who were not able to share … [Read more...] about Messi nets 2, Barcelona beats Bilbao 4-0 to win Copa del Rey
