Apple introduced a redesigned iMac today with a slimmer display, an Apple Silicon chip, and a case with bright, bold colors that throws back to the classic colorful all-in-one iMacs. Apple said the new iMac was designed from the ground up for the M1 chip. The new iMac has a 24-inch, 4.5K display with narrower borders around the top and sides. It still has a large chin on the bottom, but the rear of the display is now flat instead of curved. Apple says the volume has been reduced by over 50 percent. The screen also has Apple’s True Tone tech for automatically adjusting the color temperature. Apple is also promising a much-needed update to the iMac’s camera and mics so you’ll look better on video calls. It now has a 1080p resolution and a larger sensor. The new iMac is 11.5mm thin, but Apple says it should stay quieter and cooler than the previous model, thanks to the M1 chip. The new model has “two small fans” replacing the “bulky thermal system” of the previous-generation … [Read more...] about Apple announces thinner iMac with M1 chip and bright colors

Here’s what happens if you lose an AirTag
Source: Apple What you need to know Apple announced its AirTag tracking device at its April Apple event yesterday. A new report says the devices are programmed to play a sound if separated from its owner after three days. Apple unveiled its brand new AirTags tracking device at the April Apple event yesterday, and a new report has confirmed what will happen if you actually lose them. Whilst Apple touted loads of the benefits of the AirTag, it didn't actually tell us what might happen if you lost one for good, fortunately Daring Fireball's Jon Gruber has the lowdown: I talked to folks from Apple today about some of this. The timeout period for when an AirTag will play a sound if separated from its owner is currently three days — but that's not baked into the AirTags themselves. It's a server-side setting in the Find My network, so Apple can adjust it if real-world use suggests that three days is too long or too short. The functionality is hinted at but not … [Read more...] about Here’s what happens if you lose an AirTag

How Mercedes has turned the corner on its knife-edge W12
It had to face up to the reality that new regulations had appeared to hamper the low rake runners more than their high rake counterparts. However, while fellow low rake runner Aston Martin has continued to struggle to maximise its package in response to this, Mercedes has made clear progress with its car. For although the W12 has still been labelled a bit ‘knife edge’ by Lewis Hamilton, the car has noticeably got more stable as time has progressed – and that has drawn it closer to Red Bull. The team's development and setup focus has clearly been at the rear of the car, with the team evaluating two rear wing options during Imola’s Friday free practice sessions. Both had slightly different downforce levels but perhaps more importantly they sported different support pillar designs. This is not a new tactic for Mercedes, as it spent a good chunk of last season conducting similar tests in an effort to understand which trade off would suit their requirements for … [Read more...] about How Mercedes has turned the corner on its knife-edge W12
