ORLANDO, Florida — The Republican Party should “absolutely” look to Florida as a model ahead of the 2022 elections, Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) said during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News on Friday. Appearing at CPAC, Steube pointed to the America First policies touted by former President Trump, which proved to be popular even among non-traditional Republican voters. “So I hope we’re going to focus on those America First policies and concentrate on that going into 2022. We only have to take five House seats back to take the majority in Congress. You don’t hear anybody in the mainstream media talking about that, because that doesn’t affect their purpose and their liberal ideology, but five seats is not a lot of seats,” he said, noting that redistricting will likely bode well for the GOP. “We’ve got redistricting here in Florida. With the census data, Florida is probably going to pick up one or two seats by population. Texas is going to pick up a seat. I think maps are … [Read more...] about Rep. Seth Greenberg praises job Mike White has done at Florida amid adversity
As Florida basketball sits at 13-6 on the year and sits as projected No. 7 seed in the latest ESPN March Madness bracketology, former college basketball coach and current ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg is among those who have applauded the Gators for sustaining success amid the hurdles that the team has faced over the course of the 2020-21 season. In a recent episode of the Paul Finebaum Show, Greenberg raved over how other names have successfully stepped up in the absence of star forward Keyontae Johnson, who has not seen the court since his frightening collapse on the court against Florida State in December. “Florida, I think they’ve overachieved," Greenberg told Finebaum. "I think Mike [White] has done a tremendous job after that tragedy they went through and what they had to witness, even though Keyontae is with their team. I look at them, and I like the way [Tyree] Appleby is playing. I like the way [Tre] Mann is playing. Those guys give them some inside scoring. I like the kid … [Read more...] about Seth Greenberg praises job Mike White has done at Florida amid adversity

Florida man tries to pawn baby as a prank, sparks police probe
MIAMI: A man walked into a pawn shop in Florida, put his baby on the counter and, according to police, asked how much he could get for the kid. "This is what I got," the father, Richard Slocum, said as he placed the infant before the owner of the store in Sarasota, on Florida's Gulf coast. "He's barely used, seven and a half months old, what do you think he's worth?" The father later told officers he had been joking, but the shop owner didn't see the humour and called the police. "He was pretty serious about it," Richard Jordan told a local television news channel. "He spun the baby around, and said, 'Can I pawn this?'" Jordan called the police as soon as Slocum left, saying he was concerned for the child's wellbeing. "Slocum claims that his encounter with the store clerk was a prank and that he wanted to place his own video on social media," the police department said in a statement. Slocum contacted law enforcement himself after he heard on social media that they were … [Read more...] about Florida man tries to pawn baby as a prank, sparks police probe
Is LSU a bit of a mess heading into 2021?
LSU went 5-5 during the 2020 season, a major step back from its 2019 season where it went 15-0 and won its first national championship since 2007. Of course, this came after losing an abundance of talent to the NFL Draft. There’s also some other controversy off the football field that is surrounding the program. A Title IX lawsuit has head coach Ed Orgeron embattled to an extent, and on the field, there looks to be a quarterback battle. Is this situation a bit of a mess? CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd believes so . “Less than 14 months after winning a national championship, LSU is wrapped in controversy,” Dodd wrote. “There is an ongoing investigation into alleged sexual assault that may have happened on the watch of both Ed Orgeron and Les Miles . USA Today sued the school attempting to gain access to documents. There was a report this week that Miles was investigated for harassment in 2013. The biggest football question of LSU's spring -- … [Read more...] about Is LSU a bit of a mess heading into 2021?
‘Trumparilla’: Trump-Themed Boat Parade Planned in Tampa
The annual “Gasparilla Pirate Festival” boat parade in Tampa, Florida, is canceled for 2021, but that is not stopping Cliff Gephart and others from launching their own “Trumparilla” boat parade. “We wanted it to be patriotic. We wanted to let the world know there’s a segment of the population that wants to live our lives,” Gephart told Fox Orlando. Gephart is one of the founders of Conservative Grounds Coffee Shop in Largo, Florida. Trumparilla is slated to take place on April 17. Organizers of the event are still working out the kinks, but the flotilla route will include stops such as Beer Can Island. Nearly 2,500 boaters are already showing interest, according to Gephart. “We just wanted to say, ‘Hey, look, we can still do this in a safe manner.’ Those who want to participate can. Those who don’t want to, don’t have to,” he said. Jake Hoffman, president of the Tampa Bay Young Republicans, is also planning a nonpartisan boat parade that same day, but by the time … [Read more...] about ‘Trumparilla’: Trump-Themed Boat Parade Planned in Tampa
House passes US$19.1 billion disaster relief, Trump opposed
WASHINGTON: The US House on Friday (May 10) approved US$19.1 billion in disaster relief to help hard-hit communities like Puerto Rico, but President Donald Trump opposes the package which faces party bickering over funding. On the eve of the vote in the Democratic-controlled chamber, Trump urged Republicans to reject the "BAD DEMOCRAT Disaster Supplemental Bill" and continue negotiating on the emergency package aimed at providing recovery assistance to Americans affected by storms, wildfires and floods. But in a rebuke of Trump, 34 Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the measure, which cleared the House of Representatives 257-150. At a Florida rally on Thursday, Trump wrongly said Puerto Rico, a US territory, had already received US$91 billion in disaster aid in the wake of deadly 2017 hurricanes that devastated the island. Puerto Rico has been promised about half that amount and spent just US$11 billion, according to a Washington Post fact check.
