We know where Simon McCoy is heading next. It was revealed earlier today that BBC anchor Simon would be waving goodbye to the corporation after nearly two decades. And he'll be taking up a post at new television network GB News, for which his former BBC colleague Andrew Neil is chair. Director of news and programmes at GB News John McAndrew said: "Simon's journalistic integrity, warmth and personality is a perfect fit for what we're doing at GB News. "He's a brilliant journalist with an exceptional ability to relate to people in an upbeat way so we're keen to get him out from behind a desk and talking to people from all parts of the United Kingdom." Simon announced on social media this morning that today marked his final day at the Beeb. "After 18 years… last day today," he tweeted to a follower when asked. And Simon - who's famed for his on-air sarcasm and sass - received a tribute from his floor manager. Alastair Stewart joins GB News after being forced to quit ITV over race row
Alastair Stewart has joined new channel GB News over a year after he was forced out of his role at ITV for quoting Shakespeare at a black Twitter user. Stewart, 68, voluntarily stepped down from ITV News in January 2020, saying that he made a "misjudgment which I regret". ITV viewer Martin Shapland, 34, complained to bosses about his tweet which referenced a Shakespeare passage that contained the phrase "angry ape", but any racial element was always denied. At the time Andrew Neil, who is now chairman of GB News, publicly backed the broadcaster and said" ITN suits had forced him out". Announcing his new job, father-of-four Stewart said GB News is an opportunity to "challenge the groupthink". "GB News is a unique opportunity to broaden the spectrum, challenge the groupthink and move away a predictable agenda in news and debate," he said. "I can't wait to get stuck in and tackle issues that really matter to people across the United Kingdom." Before leaving in 2020, … [Read more...] about Alastair Stewart joins GB News after being forced to quit ITV over race row

Heavyweight Cheavon Clarke shuns meat in bid to win Olympic boxing gold
Olympic hopeful Cheavon Clarke plans to punch his way to Tokyo powered by plants. Heavyweight Clarke, 30, was born and raised in the land of Jerk chicken before moving to England aged 10. He boxed for Jamaica at the 2014 Commonwealth Games before switching his allegiance to his adopted homeland. And now, prompted by questionable farming and a Netflix documentary, vegan Clarke wants to prove the future is green. "Growing up in Jamaica we used to have our own produce; chicken, cows, goats, bees, honey, all of that," he said. "And, without going into detail, I saw my grandfather handling business. "At GB Boxing I used to have chicken every single day, but when I was buying one, the breast had a needle hole in it and there was a white vein hanging out of it. "I knew it wasn't supposed to look like that and after it happened three or four times I said I was done with chicken. "The boys said I'd never stop eating it but I watched The Game Changers and I was done, I … [Read more...] about Heavyweight Cheavon Clarke shuns meat in bid to win Olympic boxing gold

This RTX 2060 gaming laptop from Acer is on sale for $920
Building your own desktop PC (or even purchasing many pre-built models) is tremendously difficult right now thanks to GPU shortages from both AMD and Nvidia, but there are still plenty of great deals to be had on gaming laptops . Right now, you can get one laptop from Acer with a Core i5 CPU and RTX 2060 graphics card for $919.99 on Newegg , a savings of $80 from the original price. This laptop is powered by a 9th-generation Intel Core i5-9300H CPU, a 4-core/8-thread chip with a maximum speed of 4.10 GHz. That processor isn't the newest option available, since many gaming laptops now ship with Intel's 11th-gen chips, but the i5-9300H is still good enough gaming and productivity. You also get 16GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD, both of which are (bizarrely) still uncommon on gaming PCs under $1,000. Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card is also present, which will give you silky-smooth gameplay at the native 1080p resolution. Speaking of which, the 15.6-inch display can go up to … [Read more...] about This RTX 2060 gaming laptop from Acer is on sale for $920
