Copper smelter terms at rock bottom as mine squeeze hits: Andy Home
LONDON: Copper 's turbo-charged rally has stalled over the last few weeks as funds have taken profits and physical buyers have refused to chase prices higher. London Metal Exchange ( LME ) three-month copper hit a near 10-year high of $9,617 per tonne in late February but is now idling just below the $9,000 level, last trading at $8,910. Spirits have been dampened by a rebuild in LME stocks, which have more than doubled to 168,500 tonnes from a February low of 73,500 tonnes. Market optics don't look as bullish as they did. Yet there is real tightness in the copper market. It's just that it's playing out upstream in the opaque raw materials segment of the supply chain. A lack of mine supply is squeezing copper smelters, Chinese ones in particular, leading many to take maintenance downtime, a collective pause that may bite the refined metal market in the weeks ahead. ROCK BOTTOM A lack of concentrates supply has caused smelter treatment charges to tumble. These … [Read more...] about Copper smelter terms at rock bottom as mine squeeze hits: Andy Home
Girl, 8, who fought Covid for 3 weeks in intensive care saved by ‘amazing’ NHS staff
A dad whose eight-year-old daughter fought Covid in intensive care has lauded the 'amazing' NHS medics who saved her life. Paul Mercer and wife Jeanette watched daughter Kennedy spend three weeks in intensive care fighting for her life. Medics - many staying away from their own families - battled to save Kennedy's life at Great Ormond Street in London. Kennedy, sister of TOWIE star Kelsey Stratford, has a rare condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) which makes her particularly vulnerable to coronavirus . Paul, 42, told The Mirror she would not have survived without the care she received. He was stunned by the Government's recent one per cent pay rise offer, which has sparked widespread condemnation, feeling it did not properly reward the NHS medics. He said: "It's an insult. "They do an amazing job at the best of times, in a global pandemic they're putting their lives on the line. "A lot of people, including Kennedy, wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the … [Read more...] about Girl, 8, who fought Covid for 3 weeks in intensive care saved by ‘amazing’ NHS staff
The Energy Debates: Electric Cars
Editor's Note: "The Energy Debates" is a LiveScience series about the pros, cons, policy debates, myths and facts related to various alternative energy ideas. We invite you to join the debate by commenting directly on each article. The Facts Electric cars run off batteries and electric motors. None have been commercially available from the major auto companies for roughly a decade, but thousands remain on the road. Meantime, in warmer climates, electric golf carts are frequently converted to be road legal in towns with low speed limits where these low-power "neighborhood electric vehicles" can be operated safely. Cars that run purely off electric power are roughly four times as efficient as ones based on gasoline alone and twice as efficient as hybrid vehicles, said Spencer Quong, senior vehicles analyst for the Union of Concerned Scientists, a science advocacy group. Pros Electric vehicles naturally produce no tailpipe emissions , cutting down on air pollutants that lead … [Read more...] about The Energy Debates: Electric Cars

Genesis Teases New Model For Shanghai Debut, Likely The GV70e
The world premiere is scheduled for April 19. Genesis previewed its future design direction with the stunning X Concept and it turns out the automaker has another debut scheduled for this month. A single black and white image previews a new “world premiere” planned for April 14 during the Auto Shanghai in China. What is it? Let’s see the options. The image doesn’t reveal much, though we can see a closed-off grille and sleek headlights. The grille pattern looks very much like the grille design of the electric GV70 spied earlier this year, and the headlights seem to match in shape, too. This is just an assumption, but we believe Genesis has just teased the GV70e or whatever it is going to be called. Hyundai Custo Gets Early Debut In China As The Tucson Of Minivans
Minivans look boring? Think again. In an attempt to prove the minivan segment is far from being dead, Hyundai is making a big splash with the futuristic Staria . Not only that, but a second people mover is on the agenda and it goes by the name of "Custo." Fully revealing images have made their way onto the Internet courtesy of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) where the minivan was recently homologated, much like the Toyota Crown SUV . The front grille design and square wheel arches say latest-generation Tucson , but this is a proper minivan with sliding doors and a tall roof. Hyundai has etched "Custo" into the chrome bar flanked by the headlights while the company name takes center stage on the tailgate. The latter will be available in two versions, with the upper panel concealed within the taillights finished in black or in the same color as the rest of the body.
