On the other hand, the responsibility also lies with companies to equip themselves with the knowledge of IP rights and understand how important it is to register their IP to protect their service, products, and trademark. The legal knowledge will also prevent companies from violating IP rights without being aware of the incident. All things considered, the protection of IP rights plays a significant role in the development of the domestic business market with a secured environment for organisations to thrive and promote the integration of Vietnam in the international market. … [Read more...] about International integration through strong intellectual property rights protection

Bye bye bye-laws
The draft building bye-laws, prepared by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) about two years ago, are gathering dust. Presented as a solution for stopping illegal constructions and adopting environment-friendly buildings in the city, the exercise of updating the bye-laws, which was last revised in 2003, fell apart after it met opposition in the council. No fresh attempt has been made to re-start the work. Among several provisions proposed in the revised document is the powers that the civic body gave itself to take punitive measures to check illegal constructions. That could be either forfeiting the entire ground floor or 10 per cent of the total built up area or stiff fines of at least Rs 1 lakh if the sanctioned plan deviations are minimal. The BBMP could also charge 1 per cent of the guidance value if the property owner starts construction without obtaining a license. Officials said the revised bye-laws were debated at least 11 times in the council. “There was no … [Read more...] about Bye bye bye-laws

American companies challenge Trump’s tariff narrative
So what? Legal arguments about the nexus between tariffs and foreign policy goals have been sharpened over the past 18 months, both at home and in Geneva. These arguments can be politically potent, not just legally. Even if HTMX doesn’t win, its case puts an unflattering light on Trump’s tariff narrative. The Bad, Good Lawyer
In the course of looking into Weinstein’s charitable activities, Ajamie began to hear other stories. “The first thing people say is ‘He’s a bully, he rapes women, he’s a predator,’ ” Ajamie recalls. (Weinstein has always denied abusing anyone.) In mid-October 2016, after Ajamie’s report was submitted, word made its way back to Weinstein that the lawyer had been asking questions about his sexual conduct. While Boies and Charlie Prince, a Weinstein Company attorney, repeatedly tried to contact Ajamie regarding what Boies later described as his “false and defamatory statements,” Ajamie met with a well-known advocate for sexual-harassment victims, the L.A. attorney Lisa Bloom. He suggested she might be interested in representing Weinstein’s accusers in a potential lawsuit. (She didn’t take him up on it.) Around the same time, on October 14, 2016, actress Rose McGowan posted a series of tweets that seemed to be … [Read more...] about The Bad, Good Lawyer
