Cartoonist Turns Audi R8 Into A Wicked Art Car

Marketing meets art. Art cars are not new. Artists use the automobile as a blank canvas for both beautiful and exciting works of art. No two are alike, and that’s the beauty of the art car. BMW is probably most famous for such creations , with a plethora of glammed-up examples. But other automakers have dipper their creative toes in the water, such as Rolls-Royce and Alfa Romeo in the recent past. Audi has, in the past, done an art car as well, but the Audi R8 here is not an official project of the automaker. Instead, aftermarket tuning company ABT Sportsline, known for taking performance Audi vehicles and turning them straight to insanity, commissioned the car. Hungary ready to help Audi run local plant at full capacity: Orban

BUDAPEST: Hungary is ready to give financial support to Audi to help its manufacturing plant in the country run at full operating capacity, Prime Minister Viktor Orban was reported as saying on Monday as he visited the site. Orban said Audi was key to the Hungarian economy's recovery from the adverse impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. "We have to fight for the Audi plant as well," state news agency MTI cited Orban as saying. MTI said Audi's engine and car manufacturing plant in the western Hungarian city of Gyor returned to normal operation with three shifts on Monday after weeks of disruption caused by the pandemic. "We can protect jobs with agreements," MTI cited Orban as saying. The prime minister did not elaborate on the specifics of support for Audi, which employed 12,807 people at the end of 2019 and is one of Hungary's top exporters and revenue earners. A spokeswoman for Audi declined to comment. The Gyor plant manufactured 1.97 million engines and 164,817 … [Read more...] about Hungary ready to help Audi run local plant at full capacity: Orban

Audi to leave DTM at end of season, focus on Formula E

REUTERS: Audi will withdraw from the German Touring Car series (DTM) at the end of the year and focus its motorsport activities on all-electric Formula E and customer racing, the carmaker announced on Monday. The Volkswagen-owned premium brand said in a statement the realignment was also due to the economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Audi has been in Formula E since 2014, and active in DTM for 20 years. Chairman Markus Duesmann said Formula E offered "a very attractive platform" for a marque aiming to generate about 40per cent of its sales with electric cars and plug-in-hybrids by 2025. The move leaves the DTM, whose series is on hold due to the pandemic, with BMW as its sole manufacturer on the grid next year and facing an uncertain future. Mercedes, also now competing in Formula E, departed at the end of 2018 while Aston Martin left after last season. DTM boss Gerhard Berger said the future now depended on how partners and sponsors reacted. "While we … [Read more...] about Audi to leave DTM at end of season, focus on Formula E

Rast replaces sacked Abt at Audi Formula E team

REUTERS: Two times German Touring Car (DTM) champion Rene Rast will replace Daniel Abt at Audi's Formula E team for the remainder of the season, the manufacturer said on Friday. Abt lost his seat last month for letting a gamer take his place, without others knowing, in an official Formula E esports race. The all-electric series has scheduled six races in nine days in August at Berlin's former Tempelhof airport to finish a season disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The three double-headers will be held without spectators. Rast, 33, has some previous Formula E experience, racing in the 2016 Berlin ePrix for what was then the Aguri team and is now Techeetah. "I've been following Formula E very closely for a long time and am now looking forward to this new challenge," said the German driver. Audi are quitting the DTM at the end of this year, opening up the possibility of Rast continuing with them in Formula E next season. 2023 Audi Q5 E-Tron Makes Spy Photo Debut, Already Has Production Body

Say hello to Audi's version of the electric Porsche Macan. Keeping up with the Volkswagen Group's growing EV portfolio is turning into a full-time job. Audi hasn't even revealed the MEB-based Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron in production guise and yet it's already testing a completely different zero-emissions SUV. Our spies happened to be in the right place at the right time to capture the first batch of images with Audi's equivalent of the next-generation Porsche Macan. The prototype already appears to have all of the final body panels in place, although it's missing the lower front grille while those basic taillights are only a provisional setup used during testing. You can easily tell this is an electric vehicle not just by the lack of any visible exhaust tips, but also due to the closed-off front grille since there's no combustion engine that needs cooling. Scores of Volkswagen’s Mexico staff members test positive for COVID-19

MEXICO CITY: Volkswagen AG's Mexican unit on Monday (Jun 22) said about 2 per cent of its workers tested for COVID-19 had contracted the disease at some point, underlining the challenge faced by automakers in reopening factories before the pandemic has peaked in Mexico. Volkswagen last Tuesday began sending workers in reduced numbers back to its factory in the city of Puebla, where the German automaker and its luxury brand unit Audi have major plants. Many other major carmakers, especially from the United States and Japan, had resumed operations in other parts of Mexico a couple of weeks earlier. The state of Puebla, however, has been one of the parts of Mexico worst hit by the coronavirus and had delayed reopening factories. Volkswagen, which has tested staff members extensively for COVID-19 infections and coronavirus antibodies, said those who tested positive had contracted coronavirus during the period after the plants had shut in late March and before resuming work. … [Read more...] about Scores of Volkswagen’s Mexico staff members test positive for COVID-19
