Man steals phone, nabbed on his second visit to same place
A youth was nabbed for stealing a mobile phone from a guest house after he returned to the same place later. He was identified on Frida, thanks to CCTV footage, and was subsequently arrested. A complaint of theft was lodged at the Nikol police station . The accused, who has been identified as Prakash Chunara of Bhulwadi Gam in Ahmedabad rural, had picked up the phone belonging to Rajkot resident Darshankumar Makwana (20) from the guest house of Iskcon temple in Kathvada. Makwana, an engineering college student who lives in the guest house, had gone off to sleep in his room in the afternoon on Wednesday keeping his phone beside him. When he woke up, his phone was missing from the room. Makwana sifted through the CCTV footage of the guest house and noticed a man wearing an orange shirt entering his room while he was sleeping. Decision taken after incidents of officials thieving and misappropriating goods surface over years After officials of the civic body’s anti-encroachment department faced allegations of theft and misappropriation of seized goods (fruits, vegetables, carts, stalls and other cooking material), the department has become cautious during drives against alleged encroachers. Henceforth, the entire interaction/action will be recorded on video along with a detailed panchnama of all the seized goods. The culprits will have to sign on the panchnama papers. Failure will invite disciplinary action against particular officers attached with the department. In many cases, the alleged illegal stall owners claim that while releasing their seized items, many are either missing or are broken. Sometimes the staff releases such seized material on the spot by accepting bribes. This recording would help in avoiding serious allegations.
