There are two stories that I can't separate and need to share about together. The first is an incredible story in found in Matthew 17: 24 -26 regarding paying taxes. The gist of the story is that when Peter and Jesus enter Capernaum, the tax collectors ask Peter if Jesus pays the temple tax. When Peter and Jesus enter the house, Jesus speaks first and asks Peter a question "From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes - from their own sons or from others?" Peter replies, "from others." Jesus then says, "Then the sons are exempt, but so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open it's mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours."I love this story and there are a few things that jump out at me:1. the tax collectors ask Peter, but Jesus raises the issue with Peter when they enter the house, Jesus wasn't part of the conversation with the collectors but he knew what … [Read more...] about God’s Miraculous Provision
Genesis 1:1 is quite an interesting passage to me. I have memorized it in Hebrew and I often reflect on its beauty and meaning. It was upon learning Hebrew that my eyes became opened to many wonderful things concerning Genesis 1:1.Scholarship in Hebrew will reveal to the sincere seeker many of the deepest levels of Truth contained in the Holy Bible. The Aleph-Beyt is a Divinely ordered alphanumeric system of letters, numbers, sounds, and colors. With the Aleph-Beyt YAHWEH communicated the eternal Word of Truth to the prophets and apostles (1st Peter 1:25).With the Wisdom of the Aleph-Beyt we can begin to unravel some of the intricately woven layers of Genesis 1:1. Volumes could be written treating the highest science contained in Genesis 1:1. Genesis 1:1 is pregnant with many subtle yet complex ideas difficult to convey into another tongue. The King James Version translators were successful at rendering Genesis 1:1 into a concise ten-word sentence while simultaneously infusing it with … [Read more...] about My Reflections on Genesis 1:1
Meditation. Many Christians want to try it, but many others have concerns. Here are some common questions I encounter.Q: Isn't meditation Eastern or New Age?A: Christians have been meditating since Jesus went into the mountains alone to spend time alone with His Father. And the Old Testament is full of references to meditation. But other religions, and even atheists, do meditate as well, and they are often benefited by it.It shouldn't surprise us that non-Christians can access the physical blessings of meditation. Whatever our beliefs may be, we all live in the world God created. Our lives are always better when we walk in the paths He has laid out for us. And meditation, with effects both spiritual and physical, is part of God's plan."He sends rain on the just--and on the unjust too"! Matt 5:45, New Living Translation And so the enriching physical showers of meditation nourish those who love Him-and they nourish those who don't even know He exists!Q: Why do you call this meditation … [Read more...] about Christian Meditation – For Concerned Evangelicals
In these tough times, we must apply faith and hope in the promises God has made to those who believe, obey and trust in Him. Norman Vincent Peale said: Tough times don't last but tough people do. You have got to toughen up or you will melt away in this pot of boiling discouraging news. Before we can begin to talk about faith, we have to understand what faith is. Within the past few weeks I have had several people commented on my faith in a positive way. Suffice it to say, my faith has not always been at this level, but I must admit it is better than it has ever been. I have been on a journey of prayer asking God to strengthen my faith and it is working. It is a continuous work in progress and you can do the same. The definition of faith in Hebrews 11 has helped me to understand that although I cannot touch or see God physically and although I do not understand every detail of what He is doing in my life; by having faith and trust in Him, I can take actions such as, praying, giving … [Read more...] about How to Keep the Faith in Trying Times
