Drivers have been warned of a ‘fatal crash waiting to happen’ after an off duty officer witnessed several incidents of reckless driving on the A38. A Devon and Cornwall Police Twitter account has urged drivers to “check to their right” at Manadon Roundabout and do not assume that other drivers have seen the traffic light turn red. The A38 is a hot-spot for fatal collisions and in the last 25 years there has been an accident every year on the carriageway. Since 1994 up to 2016 there has been a total of 4,069 recorded collisions, of which 106 were fatal. The officer behind the Plymsort Twitter account detailed how they had witnessed a fatal collision at the Manadon A38 junction and in recent months they had witnessed drivers going through red lights on multiple occasions. The officer warned that “today was close, tomorrow may not be”.
