There has not been a year since 1994 when at least two people have lost their lives on the A38. Figures released late last year from Highways England revealed a shocking number of fatal collisions on the road which runs from Exeter to Bodmin. And this week, tragically, another woman was killed on a notorious stretch of what is now a notorious road. The figures come from Department for Transport-owned, police-administered dataset which reveals the shocking toll. Their report also noted that the A38 was considered the most dangerous road in Devon. In June last year CornwallLive noted that since 2004, 29 people had lost their lives on the A38 in Cornwall, the vast majority between Trerulefoot and Carkeel and in the Glynn Valley. Highways England provides two main data set records which records all the deaths, serious injury and slight injuries (KSIs). One states the KSIs caused by collisions while the second and larger set covers all deaths, serious injury and slight injuries which could include incidents such as people suffering a serious medical episode at the wheel or people taking their own lives on the road.
