TODAY history will be made as the European Space Agency’s (ESA) ExoMars 2016 mission finally touches down on the Red Planet.The Schiaparelli module will land on Mars this afternoon and the historic event will be streamed live by the ESA on their website.The coverage will start at 1pm in the UK giving curious amateur astronomers the chance to view the surface of the planet.As the module lands on Mars its orbiter, Trace Gas, will continue to circle Earth’s dusty neighbour.Its stated aim is to answer the question, is there life on Mars?Schiaparelli’s landing and progress can be viewed on the ESA’s website who will be live streaming the event around the world.It will also be available to watch on Facebook Live on their profile page and live updates will be tweeted out on Twitter from @ESA, @ESA_TGO and @ESA_EDM.Though this is the clinching moment of the lander actually touching down it’s journey from the orbiter actually started three days ago as it descends from the heavens onto the surface of Mars.The scary moments for the scientists will be the six minutes of the final controlled descent.ExoMars flight director Michel Denis at mission control in Darmstadt, Germany, said in a statement… Read full this story
